The end of an era..

by timelordx at Citysearch

I've been going to "Bibas" since 2002. In fact, I was quite a regular up until a few nights ago, at the new location. The owner, Nick, came up to me and was really cool and friendly. We talked a bit about the new place. I mentioned how I thought it was a bit too bright on the patio, and he turned a light off. Then 15 minutes later he comes and tells me and my friend that we can't sit up there for over 2-3 hours with our computers; that "this wasn't an internet cafe." I've been doing that for years. I don't always want to go there for food, but I have been a very good customer to them. Even Kaykay says so. I'm known there by name. So with Nick coming up to me like that, it was a total shock, like someone coming up to you and saying "hey, nice to see you again!" then slaps you in the face.

Now it gets even better... I set my step-bro up with a job there as a cook, and after his second day he's standing outside Bibas. That's all, just chillin and observing the area. A cop comes up to him, starts poking him in the shoulder, asking him what he was doing. My brothers has to unfortunately state the obvious. The cop asks him for his ID, and my bro asks him why, that he wasn't doing anything wrong. The cop tells him he was "acting suspicious" and proceeds to push him to the ground and cuff him. Two other cops arrive, saying things like "I think he's on something". My bro asks for their badge #s, and says he's going to file harassment charges. Well, he ends up being detained in an interrogation room for an hour or so, and is then released. When he returns to work the next day, the main cook yells at him for having been detained (FOR NOTHING), then tells him that he doesn't need him working there anymore, that he's not even allowed on the premises anymore... and here's the best part... NEITHER AM I. What kind of insanity is this? Now that they have a fancy new building, their attitudes sky-rocket into snobbery and extreme Greek arrogance.

So yeah, I'm never going back.

A total dive, Greek food is a let down, but the service, pizza and 24/hr parts are good

by texas_flood at Citysearch

I may have had worse Greek food before, but this place is definitely the worst place I can NAME for it, and I've had a LOT of Greek food for those who question credentials. Sorry. The ingredients are poor, and a lot of the stuff just doesn't come out right. Greek food is labor intensive, and you need good ingredients. Pizza and calzones are awesome, though. Service is good in the efficient diner kinda way, and no matter when you go you can eat whatever! It's fun after the bars. Place is run down as anything, though. I could never see myself picking this place to go to of all the places in Houston on an ordinary day.

  • Pros: Pizza, late night, service, beer
  • Cons: Some food is bad, place is shoddy looking

Bibas Ones a Meal Greek Villiage Restaurant: Best Pizza and Chicken soup anywhere! Service with some greek additude!

by RayAndMichelle at Citysearch

Ray and I have been going to Biba's for YEARS. We live about 15 blocks away, so they are close too. One thing everyone knows about me that knows me is I am VERY picky. To the point of being a pain in the ...well you know.. But I think they have the best Pizza in Houston and love the Chicken club (the one with ham/cheese) and my boyfriend Ray loves their chicken soup with the lemon when it gets cold outside. The pizza is a very thick pan style with hearty ingredients, plenty of cheese and a great tasting sauce. I get pepperoni ham and jalape?o, but I hear they have great specialty pizza's) A small one is more than I can eat , it is quite filling! I also have heard Many people speak very highly of their Calamari and gyro meat as well. (both of which aren't my thing ANYWHERE so I cant attest personally) The service will always be served with attitude (Good light hearted attitude) if you go see our favorite waiter, John. He is soo much fun, and I love his accent! They are very GLB-TG friendly, as well as family/couples friendly. That is a hard mix to maintain, and they do it well. One time I spoke to this nice man coming in from his car who wanted to know how the food was, and I started going off on how good their pizza is and the atmosphere etc go talk to John I said, he will take care of you. He turned out to be the owner. Its good to know when an owner REALLY wants to know what their customers think, and it shows in the taste of the food. I cannot say enough good things about this place! (Great, now I'm Hungry lol) - Michelle-Paulette

  • Pros: Great parking, capacity, food, and location reasonably priced. OPEN 24HRS!
  • Cons: Older Building, so bathroom could be in better shape.

Great food, best souvlaki & gyro around.

by emsmwhite at Citysearch

So, all things considered, the place is a pretty great find. It's not always spotless, and the service is regularly horrible, but the food is incredible, and always delivered in a timely manner. My favourites are the spanikopita, kotopita, chicken souvlaki, and gyro. All their pizzas are to die for, too. My biggest dislike with the restaurant is the unreliable waitstaff. There are several ladies there, only one of which is worthwhile, but I haven't seen her there for a few months (hopefully we're just missing eachother!). But the other ladies, well, they barely acknowledge your existence, and one can't seem to put down or take off her bluetooth earpiece, which is minor, but really irritates me. On the other had, I've had two gentlemen wait on me there, and both are wonderful. One gentleman looks like what my friends and I call the Greek Dr. Phil, who will aslo give just about as much advice as the real Dr. Phil would. He's awesome, and I always sit in his section when I see him there.

Overall, while the waitstaff ladies aren't very good, the food is incredible, and the atmosphere is great. I always enjoy my meals there, and I've never had anything even remotely untasty. Oh, you should also try their bread and dip... it's super good, too, and makes a great appetizer... oh, and the tzatziki is incredible, too!

  • Pros: ALL the food, can't get enough tzatziki!
  • Cons: The ladies on the waitstaff, but the gentlemen are GREAT.

Delicious food!

by nixnix at Citysearch

Great food, great/friendly service. It's packed late at night, but i've never had to wait. It's not a quiet spot, but then again i'm always there at 1-3am, and everyone has been drinking and dancing all night so- what do you expect?

The Baba Ganoush [sp] is delicious! Shoot, everything is delicious! Parking can be a bit of a pain but shouldn't take long at all.

  • Pros: Low prices, but great- clean- food. Friendly service.
  • Cons: parking

Calamari and Coffee

by coog78 at Citysearch

This place is great. You can get anything from great blueberry/pecan waffles to some of the best pizza I have ever had. The aphrodite pizza is one of the best. I tried calamari and coffee one night at 3am after going out, and it was awesome!

But, seriously, this is a great place when sober or after going out. John is the crazy Greek guy that will either make you laugh or offend you. If you're offended, you take yourself too seriously and probably need to go have a strong drink. One of the gayberhood favorites; my partner and I are regulars.

  • Pros: food, seating, service

If you are going strictly for the pizza . . .

by iamdaficionado at Citysearch

It is the one of the best pizza places in town. The service is not always the best but the Pizza is excellent. I have lived in Italy and my current job requires travel to New York and Chicago so I have eaten at several pizza restaurants. One's A Meal is where I love to go because the spinach is extremely fresh on their pizza. The bottom line, if you are going somewhere to eat Pizza you obviously weren't planning on getting dressed up and being catered to by several waiters/waitresses - go to Vic and Anthony's for that . .but for Pizza - This IS IT!

  • Pros: Great food, casual atmosphere
  • Cons: horrible parking and the service is not always the best

no fries? chips!

by jbisbal at Citysearch

open 24 h, friendly but slow service. The place was empty and we had to repeatedly ask for service. The food is average and overpriced, no fries! they just give you wavy CHIPS instead! Food tasted like yesterday's leftovers. Horrible pita bread. There are much better places for Greek food in Houston!

  • Pros: open 24 h - that's it
  • Cons: slow service, average food, not a good value
