Terrible Service, Blah Food
by dqweasd
This place is always packed, I assume because of the location. There is no other reason to eat here. The wait staff is pretentious and unhelpful, the food is very average and the prices are outrageous. There are so many better places to get sushi in town (Aka and Oishi come immediately to mind) that there is really no reason to waste time (you will have to wait for a table most nights) and/or money on this garbage.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Service, Food, Price
Couldn't Believe It!!!
by SamIam4
This is a true story!! I've eaten at Fish several times and was not terribly impressed nor was I terribly disappointed. However, a few days ago a friend of mine took me up there to meet some of her friends for dinner and drinks. We arrived a little late and ordered drinks (her friends had already eaten). We were sitting there chatting when my friend suddenly looks down in horror and pushes away from the table. When I looked down to see what the problem was, I saw a giant R0ACH crawling across the edge of the table in front of her! One of her friends quickly scooped it up in a napkin and took it to show the manager. As if that wasn't bad enough, while he was up showing our new friend to the manager, ANOTHER one ran across the exact same spot on the table and we all stood up. When he returned we asked if he was sure he had the first visitor in the napkin when he left and he assured us he did. So this was definitely a second attempt of invasion by the insect community on our meal. Needless to say, we decided not to order any food and just had our one round of drinks before promptly leaving. I will NOT be dining at this restaurant again!
- Cons: Apparent insect infestation!
Great drinks...HORRIABLE sushi
by luckyblond
I have sampled sushi all over the U.S. and Asia, it is my favorite meal! The Fish does not do sushi...fabulous cocktails and atmosphere...but the actual fish is poor quality and the dishes and rolls compromise appetizing tastes for creativity. Though even the most simple and traditional menu options tasted off. Was it an off night? I doubt it. I have yet to meet a sushi fan that recommends the sushi at The Fish. Maybe the romantic lighting is confusing the chef?
- Pros: Fabulous cocktails and ambience
- Cons: Worse sushi ever
I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Houston has lots of great seafood restaurants, this is NOT one of them! You might want to bring earplugs too.
- Pros: location
- Cons: everything else
if you're looking for great sushi, don't count on Fish
by melissanorcross
I get that this place is trendy and that the Midtown crowd is willing to sacrifice some degree of quality for ambience. And I can tolerate the mediocre food at Cyclone Anaya's and Farrago, but Fish really pushes my limits. For starters, the place SMELLS like fish -- never a good sign for a sushi restaurant. The sushi is overpriced and sub-par -- just slightly below average on its best night. I've been three times and with each visit the service has gotten worse. My experiences have shown the staff to be inattentive, uninformed and unapologetic, all of which I would be willing to overlook if the food was stellar. Sadly, it's not. Not even close.
If you want great sushi, skip Fish altogether and head to Osaka just a couple of miles away.
- Pros: location, see-and-be-seen
- Cons: terrible food, shoddy service
best sushi
by joeyrr71
I went in there for bday, ate sushi but i had alot of doubts about the food, after I ate the sushi was fenomenal, i tried a cooked roll & a raw roll, and both were superb. ambience was loud while waiting for a table but when you sit down some how it is not noisy. loved the food and the place!!
- Pros: sushi, martinis, beautiful people
- Cons: none
Great Location & Atmosphere
by bigtexsushiguy
OK Here is the Deal. Red walls give a sultry atmosphere, great place for a date. The sushi is ok and rolls were creative. The sashimi was fresh but a little skimpy. A good place to go early in the evening before hitting the town and taking a little stroll to the tasting room. Ok, Big Tex is a fair reviewer, so I'll tell you something that annoyed the snot out of me. While we were eating sushi, some gal was walking between the tables with her baby to keep it from crying. The rocking and swaying chapped my hide. You are going to shell out some dough here so you don't need some kind of baby dance 6 inches from your table. The restaurant could have sent them packing, this is not a place for kids. Big Tex will likely go back, but they are on probation!
- Pros: Great location, creative rolls
- Cons: crowded tables
bad experience

the food was mediocre at best, and the waitress treated us with open contempt. my girlfriend had an empty water glass virtually the whole time we were there. we eventually had to wave down a waiter from a different section for service.
There are Way Better Sushi Restaurants than Fish
by restowner
The service is inconsistent, sometimes good and sometimes just plain bad. They seem to pay more attention to customers who buy them drinks and shots, which was the case last time I was there. Not coming back. I rather take my business to better sushi establishments in the Houston area.
- Pros: Atmosphere, Central location
- Cons: Rude Service
Fine service, bad food
by reb_good
I have eaten here a few times and never been overly impressed by their food or service. I have never felt it was the "freshest" tasting sushi in town; especially for the price. I would have written the same review of the food, even before I ate there on Friday and my suspicions were confirmed; I got really sick!! Please don't see this as a jaded reveiw; take it as you wish. Like I said, I have always felt like their sushi wasn't as fresh as it could be. I can think of many other places that have great, fresh sushi at the same price or CHEAPER! The service was decent.
- Pros: You can walk if you live in Midtown
- Cons: Sushi not fresh
