Great place to watch fireworks on 4th of July
by Mai Pham , Citysearch Contributor
My husband hates crowds and I love fireworks, so for 4th of July we compromise and rent a hotel room downtown with a view of the Downtown fireworks. We usually stay at the Crown Plaza and request a room on a high floor facing the bayou and stay the night. The hotel isn’t the fanciest but it’s reasonably priced (about $139/night). You will have to valet, and if you get there late on the 4th of July the valet will be backed up, but overall the service has been good, the rooms are clean, they always accommodate our request for a higher floor room and we always get to see the fireworks without any sweat or crowds.
- Pros: Windows with view of the fireworks
Great Hotel with Character and Charisma
by VintageMercedes
The Crowne Plaza Houston Downtown is like no other Crowne Plaza in the world. It was formally the old Whitehall Hotel which is what gives it's unique character and charm. All of the White Marble Floors and most of the original Woodwork are in pristine condition. The spiral staircase was perfect for taking pictures. The employees are very nice and friendly.
The Crowne Plaza Downtown has tempurpedic mattresses in their guest rooms and complimentary high speed internet all over the hotel as extra amenities to guests. The rooms are spacious, and the colors are warm golds, creams, red and dark wood colors with great views of the downtown areas.
Our stay was truly relaxing and enjoyable..
- Pros: Comp shuttle service around downtown, high speed internet, tempurpedic mattresses
- Cons: None
Very Nice - Great customer service
by bobochild
We were only going to stay over Friday night but we enjoyed the room, the staff and the service so much we extended another night. We found the transportation service very convenient and the drives were very personable and always pick us up in a timely manner. The rooms have the Tempurpedic beds which are the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on. The room was clean, comfortable and very quite. While the regular rates are reasonable we found that the hotel offered a very good discount to Entertainment Card holders (an added plus). Room service was great and the food was very good and you received a nice portion size for the money. Will defiantly stay again!
It was alright.

I have been there a couple of times. It is beautful inside, but not as pretty when you start going up the floors. I called the front desk and the room service was SUPER fast. I can't wait to come back!!
