Worst barbeque
by znewman at Citysearch
Have bought their pecan pie several times for holdiays but had never eaten there until today. It was not good. Brisket was very dry and BBQ sauce was bland. Coleslaw was really bland. Sausage was nothing spectacular. We won't be back - there is better BBQ elsewhere.
- Pros: Interesting atmosphere
- Cons: Food is bland
Best Smoked Turkey in the city.
by TiffanyGayle at Citysearch
Goode Company hands down has the best smoked turkey. It is very moist and has a great seasoning to it. Not overpowering the turkey though. The potato salad here is tasty, I like to add a little mustard and pickle to mine though because I like it tart. This location is bigger than the one located on Kirby and the atmosphere is a little more quieter. the servers are nicer here too I think.
FANTASIC BBQ

THIS PLACE RATES A 10 IN FOOD, SERVICE, PARKING, AND ATMOSHERE. HEDWIG VILLAGE ONLY. YOLANDA FROM CHILDREN'S COLLECTIONS HOSTED A CHRISTMAS PARTY AT HER HOME AND USED THIS LOCATION FOR THE FOOD. WE FORGOT THE DESERTS SO WE DROVE BACK TO TO PICK UP.
THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD BEEN IN THIS LOCATION AND WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH THE CARE THEY GAVE CUSTOMERS, THE FOOD PRESENTATION LOOKED GOOD. I LOVED THE ATMOSHERE AND HOW ATTENTIVE THEY HANDLED CUSTOMERS.
- Pros: BEST BBQ, BEAT JALAPENO BREAD
- Cons: BEST PIE
Good selection of solid BBQ fare, plus duck!

First off, I'll admit my bias: I love Texas BBQ. Given the fact that this location is very close to my house, I have dined there frequently. Honestly, I wouldn't say Goode Co's BBQ is the best I've had, but it's up there in the top 10 or so. Good enough for repeat visits, certainly. It's pretty obvious as you pull up to the place that they use red oak for their BBQ wood because it's stacked up like -- well, like cordwood -- along the exterior of the building. Red oak is a good choice, since it imparts a gentle smoke flavor to the meat. Some folks (like my wife) find mesquite overpowering, and if you're one of them, I think you'll enjoy the gentleness of oak.
The brisket has always been moist and flavorful, the ribs succulent, pulling easily from the bone, and both the jalapeno and Czech sausage are worth going back for seconds. Probably the biggest surprise is the duck: not too fatty (as duck often can be), with a mild sweet flavor. As for the sides, my favorites (in no particular order) are the jalapeno beans, the Austin baked beans, and the jambalaya Texana. The only thing I've had there that I don't particularly care for is the sauce. I prefer sauce that is tangy with at least a bit of a bite to it. Goode's is too sweet for my taste. But as any Texas 'cue connoisseur will tell you, really good 'cue never needs sauce anyway.
Prices are reasonable (especially the duck), ambiance is down home Texas (gotta love the buffalo), and the noise level is moderate.
- Pros: Just about all the traditional meats
- Cons: the sauce (but who needs it?)
ALL I CAN SAY IS FAKE
by bbqlovers at Citysearch
If you want the real thing, this isnt for you. The meat is dry and tough as if it were cooked fast. Anyone that knows bbq understans you gotta cook it slow. Sauce was horrible and sides were nothing big, lacked in flavor.
- Pros: friendly people
- Cons: very unfriendly food
Best BBQ in Houston. Simply Goode.
by bmwm5driver at Citysearch
Kirby location is very casual with limited indoor seating. BBQ sauce is AWESOME! Very good meat - brisket, turkey, chicken and sausage. Side dishes are outstanding - jambalya, pinto beans, jalapeno cheese bread!!! I'm not a potatoe salad fan and I have not eaten the deserts.
West I-10 location - a lot of indoor seating. Food quality is just like the Kirby location - simply Goode. Also casual dining and child friendly. Highly recmmended!!
- Pros: Super casual, high quality food grade, Houston's best
- Cons: Kirby location hs limited indoor seating
Can't miss barbecue experience
by phlordsfo at Citysearch
My partner insisted that I drop in on Goode's on a recent trip to Houston. Wow! he was right (and he knows his bbq). Goode's is a must stop spot for solid Texas bbq. By the time the line snakes up to the cafeteria style serving area, you've begun to relax with the beer you pulled out of the ice chest, and you're forced to make the tough decision... what meats will I eat? No doubt, you will want at least the two meat plate. I had brisket and the smoked turkey on a recent visit. The brisket was juicy, tender and offered just the right mix of smoked flavor and spice as it went down. My turkey was a bit dry, but not too dry, and I liked the mix of spices that infused it - must've been some pepper, coriander and a few other things.. The jalapeno bread surprised me at how it wasn't overwhelmingly cheesy or heavy - just the right balance to heavy bbq. The beans were good, not great, and the cole slaw was creamy and heavenly. As I tried to not drip sauce on my suit, I enjoyed looking around to see families, European visitors, cops, groups of kids, and other post-work folks all gathered around the picnic tables on a cool Houston evening. Great place, indeed.
- Pros: Very good bbq. Fun atmosphere.
- Cons: Long lines.
If you Know what good BBQ is you know to avoid this place.

Well if you have never had bbq before this place probably isnt too bad, but if you come from a city that offers great bbq like dallas or austin this place pales in comparison. The brisket is too tough, the sides are nothing special save the jalepeno bread and unfortunately all it takes is one bite of the chopped sandwich to know that this place isnt the real deal. I love taqueria and seafood but dont waste your time at BBQ unless you dont know what good BBQ is suppose to taste like.
- Pros: good for groups
- Cons: the food
great BB-Q
by tbone55 at Citysearch
Goode co. has the best BB-Q in the area. the food is fresh, and the wait is short. the restaurant is a real hot spot.
This urbanized, Texana-clad barbecue joint has remained wildly popular owing to its expertly mesquite-smoked brisket and a variety of platters.

The Scene
The funky older building has limited seating inside, but that's OK. It's more fun to grab your tray from the cafeteria-style line and head for the many picnic tables lined up outside on a covered patio. You can still hear the Willie Nelson music blasting away. Look for a curious mix of West U yuppies, blue-collar 'cue fans, Rice students and Montrose bohos. With barbecue this accomplished, a second location was inevitable; Wild West residents and businesses are mighty grateful for the Katy Freeway outpost. Thank your lucky stars you live in Texas and celebrate with another piece of rich pecan pie.
The Food
Moist smoked duck and chicken lean toward the oil slick, but the thick, sweet-spicy-smoky barbecue sauce is in a class by itself, transforming the brisket into a real delicacy. Sides such as potato salad and coleslaw aren't Hall of Famers, but the soft, homemade jalapeño cheese bread is a star player.
- Pros: cheapgood for kidsoutdoor dining
- Cons: limited indoor seatingside dishes are neglible
