Overpriced, Underfresh

I used to work in a bakery, and I can guess as to how long their items are allowed to sit in the display case.
The Chocolate Bar is a very large bakery, and its size and location mean it can safely charge higher prices. However, where its size should mean faster turnover and more freshness, the quality of their deserts is just not that good, ex. dry cake, chocolate-dipped items that remain on shelf too long - stale/dry inside, cookies with few mix-ins that are $2.25 a piece. Deserts are big but not good.
Save your money and your calories.
- Cons: wide variety/unique products, but not great taste.

If you haven't tried this place yet then you must check it out. Good chocolate and lots of fun. We always take our out of town friends there and they love it. Good for a pick me up, birthday, or date.
- Pros: All the chocolate!

I have been a customer of The Chocolate Bar almost from the beginning. I have been visiting the Alabama location regularly, and I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of the 2nd location in Rice Village. All I can say is Wow!!! The place is out of this world. The service was great, everyone was friendly and helpful. They have a huge window where you can watch the chocolate makers in action. It was not as crowded as the original store but I suspect that won't last for long.
- Pros: Fun Place
- Cons: Parking--but what do you expect, it's The Village
Not happy with the service

I don't know about this Alabama location, but when went to this new place located at Rice village, I wasn't very happy with the service I got. The price tag for the cherries I was planning to buy was 2.95$, but the cashier tried to charge me 9.95$. Of course I complained about it and after a prief discussion with the manager the cashier told me that there was a wrong prize in the tag and the right price is 9.95$. In the name of the good customer service, I would have expected them to let me buy the cherries with the price marked on the price tag, but that never happened. So I just simply desided not to go back there ever again.

Chocolate Bar is the best place for a coffee and dessert. They have great chocolate desserts. The brownies are the best in town. Lovely decor, very friendly and trainded staff.
Worth visiting.

We really enjoy the ice cream every time we visit. The smaller size cups are usually just the right size. I recommend the German Chocolate. Yum! The staff is friendly but parking is tough. We haven't done any shopping on the other side of the store but it all looks very good.
- Pros: Delicious ice creams
- Cons: parking
Bad Service - not worth it

The chocolate ice cream was to die for but the attitude of the staff is not worth it. You have to ask to be waited on. If I were the owner or manager, I would definately enroll my staff in customer service classes or spend the time to train them myself. Part of enjoying your treat is enjoying the entire experience which includes service!! It doesn't matter how good the product if service is not good...most folks won't return. I won't.
- Pros: Decadent chocolate ice cream
- Cons: Service is horrible
Hair in my cake!
by DebTen

First glance I pull off a small hair on top of my cake. Then first bite and I pull a hair out and think Ok, maybe (hopefully) it's my hair. Then my husband found a hair, and I've found two more - all in one piece of cake! Guess it didn't stop us from eating it (delicious) but come on folks!
- Pros: lots of choices
- Cons: hairs in my cake!
Chocolate chocolate and more chocolate

Stopped in during a girls night out. We were doing a progressive meal and completely were satisfied with the dessert here. Part of the shop is a little store and the other side is a little cafe type section. It was a bit crowded but it was also Saturday. The girls and I all shared and after trying the rocky road, mint, smore, and oreo cake, I was happily satisfied. Every single cake we tried was excellent. We also all left with a bag in hand and goodies inside. Kids will love it, it can be a date spot or a spot to drop by and pick up a dessert before going home. Do yourself a favor and try this place. You will not be disappointed.
