Wishing for the old Saltwater Grill
by brendatexas at Citysearch
Saltwater has been my favorite restaraunt for years but last week I was dissapointed. On a Saturday night we inquired about their special (that's what we usually order) but they said they did not have one. No fresh fish special? We ordered the Asian Grill and it was sub par. The waiters were friendly and helpful but the chef behind the bar would barely answer a question.
Please bring the old Saltwater back, fabulous food and happy staff!
- Pros: Ambience, location, fresh seafood
- Cons: Is not as good as before
all around great!

This is one of my favorite Galveston places to eat! The food is beyond good. Try the crab cakes! Everyone is very attentive and nice. Ask for JR he gives the best service. He was so very accomedating and on top of his job. I can't say enough about the food. It is always fresh and each new thing i try is my new favorite!
- Pros: great good and staff!!
Mediocre at Best

My significant other and I went to this restaurant the first weekend in December. We live in Houston and dine out quite a bit for business and pleasure. I am not overly picky I promise you. This restaruant was not worth what they charge. The shrimp cocktail was tough. Our meals were cold and we waited forever for them. The waiter was kind and personable but painfully slow and we constantly felt like we were last on his list all night. Our cocktails were empty twice and we had to wait more than 10 minutes each time to even have the waiter acknowledge we might want another one. For the money you can do better on taste and service. Do not waste your time - go somewhere else!
- Pros: Good location off Strand
- Cons: Service, taste of food

after many many visits to the grill my wife and i felt
it was time to tell you our thoughts on this fabulous galveston island restaurant.
from the minute we made our reservations for a busy saturday night
to our dessert everything was absolutely perfect!
the hostess was prompt and polite, the server was quick and attentive
and recommended some great specials. The food was hot
and cooked perfectly, my wife ate a great prime filet, and i ordered
the fresh off the boat red snapper--
WE LOOK FORWARD TO GOING BACK VERY SOON! BY FAR THIS IS THE BEST
RESTAUARANT ON THE ISLAND!
- Pros: EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT --EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS
- Cons: NONE MAY BE TOO SMALL THE LINE WAS OUT THE DOOR
Book a trip to this retreat and enjoy ultra-fresh New American seafood dishes splashed with Asian accents.

The Scene
It doesn't get much hipper than this in Galveston. This snug, Strand-area turf resembles downtown Houston's nouveau restaurants, a la industrial-spare: brick walls, slate floors, an open kitchen and lots of noise. Tourists and savvy locals regularly pack the place.
The Food
Start with the grand gumbo--a French ramekin swells with a deep roux and a blast of tender seafood; pair it with the lush house salad for lunch. The crab and fried asparagus appetizer and the kicking-fresh grilled yellowfin tuna over soba noodles with Thai chili sauce will make your head spin happily. Pasta with sweet Dungeness crab, arugula and caramelized mushrooms is masterful. Seafood linguini with spicy marinara and just-steamed mussels and clams is another great choice.

We tried Saltwater Grill recently, due to good comments we had read and heard. While the mixture of seafood and pasta I had was very good, the service was adequate at best. The restaurant if kinda' small inside. There was a 1.5 hour wait when we arrived, and the restaurant was too warm inside, no doubt due to the very small, open kitchen located in the rear of the restaurant.
While the menu and food are noteworthy, the prices are too high for a seafood restaurant located within throwing distance of the Gulf. And the menu does not show enough variety for a seafood restaurant, in my opinion. The wine list is minimal, and their margaritas only come on the rocks, since they explained they have no blender to make frozen drinks. How much could a blender cost?; Come on guys!
Anyway, neither of us were overly impressed.
- Pros: Close to the Strand
- Cons: Limited Seating, Uncomfortable Temp, Limited Menu Variety
