Sad Birthday Girl

by Tyrailia at Citysearch

We went to Todai Monday for my birthday. The meal started out with an ICE COLD glass of Cabernet. I had to send that back. The buffet looked like things on it had been out since lunch. It was only 7:30 and half of the offerings were either extremely picked over or just GONE. Some of the sushi had a funny smell to it and the Ebi was like rubber. At least the Miso Soup was good, but how can you screw that up...

The meat was SALTY and RAW. For someone that is not a seafood fan and likes his meat cooked (my fiance) there was pretty much NOTHING for him to eat! Oh and there was no Lamb on the menu. This was what I was looking forward to the most.

What it boils down to is this... If you want "meat on a stick", go to Fogo De Chao. If you want sushi, go to Miako. If you want crablegs... even Red Lobster is better than this place. We most certainly WILL NOT be going back.

The best thing I can say about this place was that the wait staff was courteous.

  • Pros: Nice waitstaff
  • Cons: HORRIBLE food

Very Good, But Overpriced

by Jack1111 at Citysearch

This would be a 5 star place if it was more reasonable priced. On a week, the dinner is $31.95, which is too much for this place. $21.95 would be more in line with this type of place. Even a child over 6 has to pay 1/2, which is way too much for a child based on what they can eat. Lower the price and this place will be a 5 star place.

  • Pros: Great selection; conveniant location; great service
  • Cons: Overpriced

Best Sushi Buffet in Town - PLUS MORE!

by g1nahis at Citysearch

This sushi buffet def beats Kirin and TokyoOne by far! Kirin def isn't as fresh as Todai and TokyoOne has a super weak selection compared to Todai.

I actually brought my company to TokyoOne for a Christmas Party and they forgot our reservation, so we had to split into 2 small tables --- it's not something ideal for a company who's trying to build camaraderie. The selection was minimal and boring -- I remember thinking to myself, we should've just paid $2 more for each person for dinner and gone to Todai! Todai not only has a great selection of sushi (always fresh, they even have sashimi!) but it's always super fresh, but it's has Brazilian meats! My company can't afford the $50-something buck Brazilian meat dinner at Fogo, but TODAI's a great compromise. Best of both worlds. Asia and Brazil.

Staff has always been attentive to my BF and I and I would say the staff is great! Def worth the $$.

Total disaster in Todai Houston

by DGnJB at Citysearch

OOOps we did it again! Disappointing experience ! For the second time Todai proved that first impression is the right impression! Bad service so is the food ! Slow and ignorant waiters! I would not recommend it to my enemy even!

  • Pros: if you still want to eat there are other restaurants nearby
  • Cons: Bad food, worse service

Best of both world

by cometodo at Citysearch

Sushi and oyster was fresh, Churrasco was excellent and seasoned perfectly the way I like. Chimichurri was authentic. Ambience was impressive. The only problem was that my stomach was not big enough to try them all. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves cruise dining on land.

Good food but a little expensive

by colstat at Citysearch

I love their food really much. Especially, I visit there to have lots of different kinds of sushi. Big chunk of fish on top of small rice makes me satisfied. They are so tasty and fresh.

Although I love this place, they raised price because of Brazillian steak and I don't really enjoy their meat that much. Sometimes it's too salty and not so juicy. Maybe this is because I am not a meat lover.....

But I wish they charge accordingly. Only people who want to have those meat pay more although this is a little weird thing to do in buffet restaurant. Aother thought, you guys provide steak every the other week then, customer can choose when they want to visit. Just an idea.

Well, I don't go there to eat steak (easy to have anywhere in Texas although serving style is a little different) but to have lots of exotic, delicious, and fresh food. Overall, I like this restaurant and want to recommend to my friends.

  • Pros: Good food
  • Cons: Expensive

This enormous Japanese buffet attracts a diverse crowd for all-you-can-eat sushi and tempura.

In Short
The first Todai Restaurant debuted in 1985 in Santa Monica, Calif., and has since opened in locations across the U.S. and in Hong Kong. The restaurant, with seating for up to 500 people, features a 160-foot seafood buffet offering more than 40 kinds of sushi, all made fresh. The salad selection ranges from Caesar to seaweed to red potato salad. Hot entrees include sukiyaki, teriyaki chicken, sweet-and-sour pork and udon noodles.

Excellent Food and Service

by AdvanT at Citysearch

Took a couple of comrades to dine after a business meeting. We were surprised about the new changes. Excellent food and selection of wines. Party of twelve that night, all of us raving the next day about the experience. The manager even gave us a private area away from the kids. Looking forward to the next visit.

Extremely below average food items and equally atrocious service.

by SuperUnknown at Citysearch

Atmosphere: Awful. Food: Downright terrible. Service: Doesn't even exist.

This is basically a $5 Chinese buffet that costs $20 but is 100 times worse than the worst $5 Chinese buffet you have ever been to.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Food and Service
