Best little museum to see while in Houston!
by rubydawn
the Buffalo Soliers National Museum in Houston located in downtown Houston is a must see before you leave the state. The staff is not only friendly, but they are so knowledgeable on the artifacts, millitary uniforms for men and women, and the gift shop is amazing. The prices are very reasonable. The souveneirs are great! Tthe Buffalo Soldier artwork is amazing. The museum 1 man reenactment of a buffalo soldier draws is phenominal! The show will definately leave you wanting to no more about the history of the Buffalo Soldier. I would recommend this museum for all family members, you will not be disappointed.
- Pros: service, great gift shop for souvenirs
- Cons: limited parking

The Experience
The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum houses a unique collection of artifacts relating to the African-American troop formed in 1866 by the U.S. Army. Step back into time with videos, prints and other historic mementos that attempt to capture the brave and moving history of the Buffalo Soldiers.
The History
The term "Buffalo Soldier" has its roots in the tribes of the Cheyenne warriors. In 1867, the nickname "Wild Buffalo" was given to any person who demonstrated extraordinary courage and strength. Over time, the term was encompassed to incorporate African-American soldiers who fought during the late 1800s and early 1900s. These soldiers fought in the Indian Wars of the North American West, Spanish American War of 1898, World War I and World War II.
