Picnic without the unwanted litte creatures
by lmoses at Citysearch
This place is very cute and small. It has picnic tables to eat your lunch at. The chicken salad is the best. It is not drowned in mayo. You can actually taste the other spices and chicken. The homemade cookies are very good.
- Pros: Great bread
- Cons: parking lot small, expensive, few tables
Great lunch place

My mother and I visited this cute place for lunch and it was great! We had the orzo pasta, chicken salad, egg salad, and pimento cheese all in small 5 oz containers!-we shared and the favors were perfect for a light lunch. Amazing bread!!!
- Pros: great healthy fast lunch
- Cons: parking!

In Short
This sky-blue cafe is owned by the Raven folks next door. Long indoor picnic tables anchor the space, often dotted with locals lunching on tuna salad. Picnic bakes artisan breads and hence specializes in sandwiches. Faves: smoked turkey with avocado and char-grilled veggie with goat cheese. No picnic would be complete without pimento cheese or sun-dried tomato chicken salad. Star attractions in the pastry case include lemony blueberry muffins, luscious cranberry loaves, carrot cake and assorted cheesecakes buzzing with whimsical dragonflies.
could be better

The recommended chicken salad was dry and nothing special. I ordered two boxed lunches and both the side and the cookies weren't what I had ordered (I should have checked before I left). One of the parking lot entrances is really steep, making me fear for my front bumper. High prices for average food. But the staff was friendly and attentive and the decor is original and inviting. They could use another table for all those soccer moms eating in there; they have plenty of room. Also they need to put some lights and a new floor in the restrooms (not bare concrete!).
- Pros: lots of parking, unique atmosphere, good staff
- Cons: high prices, little seating, dark restrooms

I love this place and would happily eat there every day of the year. The pork tenderloin is unreal, but my fave thing are the cookies and the chicken salad. This place ROCKS.
- Pros: the food, sandwiches, cookies
- Cons: no cons
Cool Comfort Food -- Dad and I agree A++
by fortheloveofbees at Citysearch
The Pork Loin Sandwich is my Dad's favorite. I like the Chicken Salad. Picnic is a little cute for my Dad's taste, but the cozy, come-as-you-are, sweet staff, and the basic fare where the old neighborhood grocery store used to be add a bit of nostalgic appeal that is easy to grow fond of. Let the tricycle parked out front be a warning that it's a neighborhood joint where neighbors exchange words in neighborly ways at picnic table seating. The box lunches are also great for takeout, if community seating is not your bag. It's so close to the sculpture garden. Last time I grabbed a box lunch to go and ate there.
(great bathrooms)
- Pros: atmosphere, food, staff
Great spot for a break!

Yum! Picnic is on my commute from home to work and I find it way too convenient. I would definately recommend the chicken salad sandwich; I don't order the combo normally and it fills me up just fine for around $5 or $6. I recommend coming either before or after the noon hour, or you will not find either parking or seating. The only thing that I would recommend is more small tables, I get the "picnic" theme with the picnic tables, but if all you have is an hour lunch, sometimes it's easier to relax without having to sit across from a two year old eating a PBJ. Great place to people watch though!
Good but not cheap

I went to Picnic for the first time and was not disappointed. The chicken salad was fantastic and the potato salad was also good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The relaxed nature of the restaurant was also nice. However, I consider $20 dollars for two people to eat a sandwich with a small side of potato salad, chips, pickle, cookie, and tea a little expensive. I will definitely go back, but the price will make those return visits rarer than I'd like.
- Pros: taste, service
- Cons: cost
