Big and great stage and lights

by m2b at Citysearch

This is a great bar or host to local and out of town events. This bar has been around a long time and still is the home of many lcal underground artists. The venue is open with room to dance. It has also been known to host a few small convention events. If you looking for a good place to get your name out there this is the place for you. If you love up and coming artists, local stars, great sound, unbeliveable lights and good music this is the place for you.

  • Pros: Stage and Space

Live-music bar bears sophisticated flair, flirts with blue-collar demographic.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
One side of the club is festooned with enormous glass and sheet-metal sconces. The bar is illuminated with icy-blue hanging lamps and a psychedelic wall projection. Flavoring the usual bar choices is a selection of blue-collar beers (Pearl, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Lone Star) to keep it real. Patrons range from voting age to tattooed Generation Y. The mainstream jukebox is a weak match to the college-rock tastes of the collective, but focus here is on the live music.

Up Close & Personal

by nirvana77 at Citysearch

I've been going to the engine room on and off for over a year, and I've never been disappointed. In fact, when I saw Eyes Adrift, I was in heaven. I got to meet Krist Noveselic of Nirvana and I got to sit on the stage while they were playing, so it was like total band/audience intimacy; which is the best part about the engine room. It's not all crappy and commercial, it's what downtown music should be like; fun, different, and easily accesible. I'll definitely be back.

  • Pros: Intimate, Inexpensive, Good Sound

The Engine Room is a great venue to see some great up-and-coming bands as well as a few well established ones. The sound system is superb!

left standing

by railjumper99 at Citysearch

I went to see my sons band (SIOS)play about 8 months ago,so it may have changed since then. The sound was great, all the bands came out real clear.MY major gripe was that there were hardly any tables & chairs in the place. That did leave plenty of room to dance though. It's also not located in the best part of downtown,so keep your eyes open & your car locked.

  • Pros: good sound
  • Cons: no tables, no chairs, location

GlassJaw

by GJ_fan4life at Citysearch

I have been to The Engine Room many times, but the best show had to be the GlassJaw/Poison the Well show last spring. The times I have been there they have always had great clear sound and you can really feel the band(one of the few places that you can still stage-dive)!!!!!!! The Engine Room ROCKS!!! P.S. Write a review and rate the venue! Stop telling us about the crappy bands you think should play there. Minderbinder, who? Weak!

I'm out!

  • Pros: Upclose and Personal, Sound, Inexpensive
  • Cons: A/C, Parking

All Fired Up!

by candycastle at Citysearch

The Engine Room has a quaint & cozy vibe. Not the most attractive and accommodating place. You can miss the place as you drive up to it as the outer appearences look like an abandoned warehouse. Great place to see an 'unpopular' group as this place is set up for standing room only and does not have adequate air-conditioning. Get ready to SWEAT!!! Other than that, it has great acoustics.

  • Pros: GOOD ACOUTSICS
  • Cons: NEEDS REMODELING, NEEDS ADEQUATE A/C, LIMITED PARKING

Eninge Roomless

by ewhipple at Citysearch

Not the biggest place in the world but that has its advantage. As long as you're not standing behind Yo Ming the band feels in your face! I love this place!

  • Pros: Intimate, Good Sound, Great Bands
  • Cons: Small, Tall People

Worth a visit

by johnc1 at Citysearch

I saw the Saw Doctor's there last night and came away impressed with the engine room. There is plenty of room to move around and you can get as close to the band as you want. The house sound system is supberb (which the openiong act should have used, there's was atrocious) There is some booth and cocktail seating if you need to sit. I will defintely make it back...I just wish they had draft beer, my only crticism.

  • Pros: Perfect size, sound system, atmosphere
