I can spend hours upon hours at this park. The gardens are amazing, especially the Japanese garden. Follow every trail and discover something new and beautiful. Now, with all the changes that are being made to the park, it is an even beautiful.
- Pros: SCENERY
Houston's Best Kept Secret
by pancho_semplice at Citysearch
If you haven't seen Hermann Park recently, I HIGHLY recommend you see what they've done with the place. It is a beautiful park filled with secrets that you can only discover with a good, comfortable pair of shoes and a sense of adventure.
Start your expedition at the Sam Houston statue, and don't leave until you find the Enchanted Throne!!
- Pros: Scenic, Clean, Relaxing
This shady public space offers trails, picnic areas, a golf course, an amphitheater and the zoo.

The Background
From Fannin Street near the Medical Center, you can see the bronze statue of George Hermann standing on a granite-paved court. Hermann donated 278 acres for the city's first public park, along with $2.5 million to build nearby Hermann Hospital.
The Appeal
The park rests on 401 acres in the heart of the Museum District. Joggers, cyclists and skaters make use of the many paths and trails, while picnicking families flock to the park on weekends. The live oaks and huge grassy areas invite an afternoon with the kids and a Frisbee. Things to see within the park include the Kipp Aquarium, Houston Zoological Gardens, Miller Outdoor Theater, Houston Garden Center, Japanese Garden, a public golf course, the equestrian statue of General Sam Houston, and the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors' Plaza.
Ahhh. A Day at the park...

This place is fantastic! It is shady, has walking trails, riding trails, and is close to several museums, the Zoo and Miller Outdoor Theater, to name just some of the things that make it appealing for a day outing. You can plan a day at the park, and then just go with the flow!
- Pros: Good Parking, Convient
- Cons: Can be crowded
Best golf deal.

Course is in great shape with the exception of some bumpy greens. Very lush surroundings.
Holes tend to be on the shorter side (e.g., 478 yd par 5), but nonetheless are still challenging. Enough water and blind shots to test your accuracy.
Best excuse to leave work early? How about a $14 green fee to walk 18 after 2pm on weekdays; $6 more for a cart!
Never had a problem walking on, but I doubt that will last as nice as this course is.
- Pros: Low cost, Course in great shape
- Cons: Plagued by slow play, No clubhouse @ turn, Ambulance sirens
