rip off

if you are willing to pay $10 for a small pellegrino and $20 for a single shot of cognac, plus the $10 cover, then this is the place for you. As for the music, well..., you can buy 4 CDs for the cost of one going. I know....I know...the experience....bla....bla....bla...
As clandestine as a speakeasy, Houston's premier jazz club is a singing, swinging secret.

The Scene
The small, classy space has been building its reputation on the local jazz scene for years, slowly expanding its calendar from featuring strictly local acts to bringing in regional and national artists.
The Draw
The playing area is extremely close to the sitting area, creating an intimate atmosphere to enjoy first-class music in. This cozy jazz room sits above the Black Labrador Pub in Montrose, just off the University of St. Thomas campus. Such a quiet, idyllic location might be appropriate for the unimportant little piano bar it used to be, but you'd expect Houston's premier jazz club to sit in the midst of some swinging action. No matter, really, as Cezanne is more about quality music than image.
a great find on montrose

in the midst of all the eclectic weirdness on montrose is a hidden jazz/piano bar that occupies a small upstairs space ... that small space immediately sets the mood ... romantic, personalized, mysterious. the closeness to the entertainment envelops you whole and suddenly you're lost within the seductive jazz beats playing out before you. there is a minimum drink requirement, though, but those drinks adds to the total experience. definitely a great find in town~!*
- Pros: live music, mysterious, ambience
- Cons: small, parking, drink requirement
absolutely the best!

Atmosphere was definitely romantic and perfect for the date you already know but want to impress, especially if they absolutely love Jazz. A trio of LIVE Jazz was amazing. Soothing yet in a way sensual sounds with a raspy wave. The bartender was perfect in making sure the glasses were full and always cleaned the ashtray after each cigarette was put out. BE ADVISED: for each session you must purchase at least one cocktail and if my memory serves correctly, there is a $10 charge per person. Above that, the service was exceptional eventhough I took my date here after dinner to relax, so we did not try the food.
- Pros: SERVICE, GREAT LIVE JAZZ, ROMANTIC
- Cons: none, none, none
The real thing...

Ya gotta love this cozy little club... If you weren't swooning over the person you came with, you will after leaving this place. It's so cozy you feel like you're playing with the band! The service is good and I think the bartender has been there since they built the place! I highly recommend this place if you're looking for quality jazz and a great atmosphere...no tiring Houston crowds!
- Pros: romantic, quaint, quality music
