Incredible Service
by ooh_la_la317
I visited the Richmond location recently to have a surprise birthday brunch for my mother's 50th birthday. Gracie was our server and I could not have asked for better service. She came out and greeted us to tell us the table was ready. She, alone, waited on 9 of us. She was very accommodating and honored my requests. I paid for food and non-alcoholic beverages. I was very worried about how separate drink tabs would work, but she handled it perfectly. They allowed me to take my own cake in and held it in their kitchen. When it came time to sing happy birthday she set a chocolate plaque and candle on the cake as well as served it. Thank you Gracie. You made my mother's brunch a worry-free fun time!!! By the way everyone loved the buffet brunch. We all had seconds.
- Pros: The excellent service
- Cons: So many people like it so it can get a bit crowded
BEST SEA FOOD EVER!!!!! AND DRINKS!!!!!!!
by Deboak
WE WERE ON A TRIP AND WAS STAYING AT THE DRURY INN, IN HOUSTON. WE ASKED FOR A GOOD RESTAURANT FOR SEA FOOD. THE CLERK TOLD US ABOUT PAPPADEAUX. SO WE WENT A LITTLE BETWEEN 1 AND 2 IN THE AFTERNOON. OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!! ALL THE FOOD, YOU GET A VERY LARGE AMOUNT. ARE WAITER WAS NEW TO THE RESTAURANT BUT HE DID VERY !!!! WELL!!!! HE ALSO TOLD US ABOUT THE PORTION AMOUNTS, IT REALLY HELPED THERE WERE FOUR OF US. WE LEFT STUFFED. THE RASPBERRY MARGARITTA'S ARE TO DIE FOR. HAVEN'T FOUND ANY THING LIKE IT SINCE. THE PRICES WERE A LITTLE HIGH WHEN YOU READ THE MENU. THAT'S UNTIL YOU GET THE FOOD. GREAT FOOD GREAT PRICE. WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK AGAIN.
- Pros: JUST PLAIN EXCELLENT
- Cons: NONE
Good service, horrible management
by umiuo
Pappadeaux has okay food, but I don't recommend any of the sauces, as they are all extremely greasy. Management treats their employees worse than dirt and are extremely unprofessional. The kitchen is also ridiculously slow and makes mistakes even when the restaurant is not busy. The bar is even worse when it comes to consistency and speed. Nothing except the fish on the chalkboard menu is worth what they charge. The only good thing about this place is the servers - they are all very nice people. I worked there, and it was the only place I've ever quit due to personal reasons.
Excellent seafood dishes, especially their crab stuffed mushrooms
by suzistack
I was a little wary of going here given that it is a chain, potential for crowds, etc.. but we were pleasantly surprised and had a great meal here. The crab stuffed mushrooms were superb - bathed in a light garlic butter sauce and perfectly baked. Went great with our glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. I then had grilled salmon with sauteed shrimp on top accompanied by fresh steamed vegetables which was very tasty. Huge portions though so definitely plan for that when ordering.
We will definitely return!
- Pros: Great seafood dishes, New Orleans style patio
- Cons: It does have that "chain" feeling....
My favorite restaurant in Houston
by groovingarv
Pappadeaux has by far the best seafood in town! I don't even like oysters but I gladly eat them here. The food is always cooked to perfection. They are so consistant . The appetizers are so varied and all so good that it is very difficult to decide, but try them all you won't be dissapointed. Everything on the menu is worth trying for that matter but my favorite is the shrimp brochette! The quality and taste are simply unsurpassed. The restaurant on Richmond and Kirby has the most ambiance but I visit them all simply for the great food. If you like seafood this place will quickly become you favorite restaurant. I have a girlfriend that surprized her husband for his birthday by flying him to houston just so they could go to Pappadeaux for his bday dinner! Thats how good this place is!
- Pros: Great seafood
- Cons: Little ambiance

I am from St. Louis and enjoy Pappas every visit to Houston...and Chicago. If it is not a chain, I wish at least one could be built in St. Louis where we love cajun cuisine...(i.e. Soulard area). Great Food. Especially love the fondue.
- Pros: Fondue, blackend anything
Great Seafood For A Houston Restaurant
by grthomas
I'm orginally a Marylander, so I'm not easily impressed by seafood dishes, although, Pappadeaux's did have some great seafood. The shrimp etoufee was amazing! Sunday brunch was also good. It's pretty amazing to find a restaurant that served quality buffet style food
- Pros: Seafood, Desserts
- Cons: Parking during Brunch, Cost
Not even a chain
by 4777april
to Whommac, it is too bad that you don't know the history of the Pappas Restaurants. In no way shape or form is the Pappas company a chain. Pappas is a privately owned company and family ran, by the Pappas. To those who read the previous review about hiding the fish with heavy sauces, read the Chalkboard and enjoy the fresh fish with NO sauce. Pappas is awesome and I highly recommend it to all!!

In Short
The Cajun and seafood staples here are darn good. The seafood-and-andouille gumbo is a hearty broth flecked with sausage, shrimp and crab. Blackened catfish filets are delicious, nicely spiced, charred and moist. Other standbys include versions of étouffée, po' boy sandwiches and fried, broiled and grilled seafood dishes. Crawfish appear in countless forms, from steamed to fried and beyond. The house offers a half-dozen breeds of oysters on the half-shell, available in sampler selections.
A cut above

After a recent dinner out with my wife, I found this particular location to be head and shoulders above other pappa's restaurants I have been to. The interior is completely redesigned, with a warm and almost romantic feel. The fish, though offered with sauces, can also be served grilled to perfection (like the tuna I had). The prices are reasonable, and I hear the brunch is good too...I will return!
- Pros: seafood, variety, atmosphere
