Global Art Village
When director Kimberly Davenport took over Rice University's distinctive 40-by-44-foot cube-shaped space, she knew there was a strong focus on local and regional artists in Houston's art community. Davenport selects artists of national and international renown who are on the cutting edge of contemporary visual art.
Show and Tell
Exhibitions have included Jane Miller's "Time Not Wasted," an extensive display of handcrafted pieces made from discarded items, such as a rug of crocheted audiotape; and Nicole Eisenman's "Behavior," a bizarre, mammoth installation detailing the war between factions of male bees and female flowers. The gallery also features exhibitions of student works. Expect tricky parking, as it's located on a university campus.
