Very rude security staff

by dwlarson123 at Citysearch

Can't even bring water into the concert--that makes a lot of sense.

Too much security--overkill. The security had the gustapho mentality, being very rude, and agressive. They were muscling around anyone they cared to. We were treated like dogs, degraded, and whipped.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE.

  • Cons: Security extremely rude and tyrannical

Worst place to see a show

by lsy60 at Citysearch

This is the worst place I have ever seen a concert. In the city the size of Houston we should be able to do better...MUCH better. First, the location is so far out that it is a major inconvenience, parking is atrocious, but most of all the acoustics are horrible. So disappointing to be looking forward to seeing a band you really like and then having trouble making out any of the words. We need to get one of these other burbs...Katy, Sugar Land to build something decent.

  • Pros: hmmmmmm none I can think of unless you like mosquito bites and sore back end
  • Cons: parking, seating, location, accoustics

save your money = don't go !

by salliemander1 at Citysearch

Over the years my friends and I have frequented 'the pavillion' for various rock concerts. And over the years 'the pavillion' has gone straight down hill. DO NOT get 'hill' seats for a rock concert! You will not be able to hear the show at all. At the Projekt Revolution tour here recently the only band that got turned up was Linkin Park. Save your money! This is not a ROCK friendly venue. You will be able to hear if you see a country group or oldies group. It is just wrong to pay good money for a ticket and not be able to hear the acts.

  • Pros: Close to Conroe
  • Cons: cannot hear the concerts

I love the Place!

by dburrows at Citysearch

I?ve seen at least 100 concerts at the Pavilion since it opened in the early 90?s, from the top of the hill to leaning on the stage. If the band did a good job and the sound equipment didn?t malfunction I?ve always had fun. The staff is always friendly. There are plenty of locations for beverages, food and restrooms.

To the previous post from k??, There is nothing wrong with the Woodlands Pavilion unless you?re someone who doesn?t like being outside and under the stars (on most nights). For the concerts that the majority of people go to see, the people enjoy the option of sitting on the hill, choosing where they want to sit and getting together in groups of friends. (As for the smokers, you can still do that on the hill.)

Too far from Houston? Sorry, it?s less than 25 miles from the city, a mere 30 minutes. This it Texas, Nothing is close and there?s no problems with the highways. Even from Sugarland the drive isn?t bad if the show is worth it.

Places to go after a concert? Sure there?s places downtown but there are plenty of good places close to the Pavilion and more being added all the time. You can have a good meal before the show or party afterwards just the same in The Woodlands as you can downtown. Either place you?ll still need to drive home.

Overall the Cynthia Wood Mitchell Pavilion is a very good venue for concerts as well as the Symphony. I just wish it had a larger stage that could attract the real big name bands.

  • Pros: Easy access in and out. No problems with lines.
  • Cons: Somethimes you will need to walk a ways to the gate on sold out shows.

Avoid this place!

by klausvonstein at Citysearch

Outdoor concerts just do not work in this part of the country. It's either too hot, to humid or both. If the heat and the humidity are not the problem then the rain or the mosquitos are.

If it does happen to be a nice evening in the early spring or late fall and you don't mind making the long drive way up to the Woodlands then you might enjoy it.

Cynthia Woods is located too far North of Houston. I believe that concerts should be centrally located and in climates such as those in Southeast Texas it just makes sense to have them indoors.

Unless it's a show you really really have to see I wouldn't spend the money. You would be better off waiting for the show to come to the Toyota Center which is located in downtown Houston.

After a good show in the Toyota Center you can make your way to Main Street just a few blocks away to enjoy the night life. After a show at Cynthia Woods, you basically just jump on I-45 and start making that long drive home.

Why a majority of concerts are still held at Cynthia Woods is a mystery to me. My only guess is that because there is no air conditioning concert promoters might be able to save money on renting this particular venue and from the prices of the tickets it does not look as if they are passing the savings to the customers. Good for them, bad for you!

One last thing, if you do get lawn seats you can rent a cushion to sit on. Yes, they will rent them to you and no, you can not bring your own.

Also, many of the good center stage seats under the rain cover are reserved by large corporations and the front row seats are not front row because there is actually a pit in front of the front row seats so if you have front row tickets you are actually something like five rows back.

This place is bad for the consumer and once enough people stop attending shows at this venue then maybe promoters will start doing the right thing and booking more shows at the Toyota Center.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Outdoors, too far North of Houston, not a bargain

See the stars shine at this popular outdoor amphitheater.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Venue
The outdoor amphitheater in the woods accommodates 16,500 concert fans. Seating/standing options include the floor in front of the stage, near-the-floor bleachers and a pitched lawn beyond the fixed seating. Concessions include beer, liquor, Chili's, Papa John's, nachos, popcorn and pretzels. Chairs are available for rent.

The Experience
The big-name acts usually manage to fill the seats and lawn. Outstanding talents gracing the stage include the Gipsy Kings, Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, Dave Matthews Band, Tori Amos, the Who, the Chieftains with Sarah McLachlan and the Houston Symphony.

Great Place to Have an Outdoor Concert

by brockhome16427 at Citysearch

Saw Dave Matthews and it was a great concert. We sat on the hill and really enjoyed it. Blankets were allowed however we chose to rent chairs. There was lots of room to move around even tho the concert was sold out. Line-ups to the washrooms were minimal (5 minute wait for girls room) and the food wasnt too bad (great french fries). People who worked the facility were very friendly and helpful. Sound was great and the big screens were a nice touch. This was our first experience and we will return.

  • Pros: Great Outdoor Concert Venue
  • Cons: Must remember where you sit on the hill as you could get lost (very very dark)

Best and worst

by zialxa at Citysearch

One of the worst concerts I have ever been too was Ozzfest 05. 114 degree temperatures, 15 minute lines at water fountains, and nasty, muggy atmosphere on the grass hill. However, the best concert I've been to is a Dave Matthews show. Awesome breeze on the hill and a nice, cool Fall temperature at night. As for the no anything rule, they only do that at rock shows. I've seen people in hills go crazy with moshing, rolling, and sliding down the hill. The last thing security wants is a lawn chair thrown in the middle of a mosh pit. At the DMB show, they allowed towels, blankets, and whatnot because people enjoyed the show with civility. The bathrooms can be a far walk sometimes, and the concessions are EXPENSIVE! The acoustics and the sightlines are not bad. I have gone to many, many concerts here and I would recommend this venue. Depending on the show, it can be a very nice experience.

  • Pros: Comfortable atmosphere
  • Cons: Parking

Seating and parking

by redcougar at Citysearch

The CMWP is expensive for any good seats below the grass hill. There are poles located between the hill audience and the stage. The color coded parking lots are located a good half mile from the Pavillion. The crowds seem to be subdued compared to other area arenas. I love concerts and go often but, I really don't like the situation at the CMWP.

  • Pros: clean , safe, close to I45
  • Cons: parking, seating, acoustics
