Bad service
by yshih at Citysearch
Tonight (8/31/08) we went to Fish Tales with the other 2 families for totally 9 people around 9pm. The waitress only gave us two straws and said the restaurant run out of straw. Then we asked for bread because kids were tired and hungry after waiting for 30 min on the table. But she said the restaurant changed the policy plus there was no bread available; however, we did see other tables did serve some bread. The food taste ok, but the price is over its value. We all very disappointed the service there and will never come back to this Fish Tales again.
Avoid at all costs

My very first review! Must have been bad for me to right this. The restaurant had an odor of arm pits as soon as we walked up the stairs to the 2nd floor. The chairs were dirty. I ordered stuffed flounder and the fish was not flaky as if it was frozen and the stuffing was minimal, tasteless, and watery. My face is turning up just thinking about it. Complete waste of money.
- Pros: On the seawall
- Cons: Food, Lack of Cleanliness
Sad experience.....

My husband and I wanted to treat our 9 year old son to a good sea food restaurant in our visit to Galveston last month. After summing for a few hours we ask about a good restaurant and some local suggested Fish Tales. We went there all excited and waited to be seated, the hostess told us our waiter would be with us shortly but never showed up. We decided to wait for 10 minutes and no one even greeted us. We just saw people walking in front of us but never came by. We waited almost for 20 minutes until I got really upset and left when no one even noticed we were there. We all were disappointed and my son was sad we had this experience.

We have been going to Fish Tales for several years and have always found the food and service GREAT!
We were there June 25 for my birthday about noon. JAMES our waiter could not have done more. The food was great and took no time at all. Everyone there was friendly. I'm so sorry ya'll seem to have a problem. I was concerned when I read this site before we went because I thought things had change for the worst. NOT so just as good as ever. Thanks JAMES!!!!
- Pros: Love the open deck and Food
- Cons: NONE I can think of

This is the first time to actually write a review, obviously it was horrible, for me to spend my time and energy to say so. We arrived at 9:45pm. We were promptly seated ( we were a party of 7), Red was our waitress. Service was limited. I mean we had to wait for our iced teas, while the folks who ordered drinks from the bar were served immediately. I ordered off the kids menu, "shrimpy" shrimp, as did my little ones- they ordered ravioli bobbers (fried raviolis, although they, we were unaware of this when ordered), husband ordered fried shrimp, our son ordered shrimp po boy, father-in-law ordered fish-n-chips, and my mother -in-law ordered stuff shrimp. My meal was good, good flavor, hot, crispy. The rest of the fam, theirs, was horrible. The girls hated their raviolis, we were unaware of them being fried. My husband's was tasteless. His shrimp had no flavor, he didn't receive his salad, which he ordered instead of fries. My father-in-law couldn't even bite into his fried fish. I mean, come on. My mother-in-laws stuffed shrimp had a funny taste. Our teenage son's meal was okay. Not the best shrimp po-boy ever, but not bad. We asked to speak with the manager 3 times before our waitress went to get him. We paid over 125.00 for poor food, service, and response. Nothing was comped or even re-cooked. I know it was late, but your first meal produced should be the same as the last meal produced that night. There should not be a difference in service and product just because of time of day.
Horrible Service, Mediocre food

My husband and I ate here and were so disappointed. We went on a Wednesday...not a holiday, not a weekend. It looks like a fun place to eat. We were completely ignored when we walked in until we cornered one of the staff and she told us to go upstairs, after rolling her eyes. We get upstairs and wait at an empty hostess stand for about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledges we're there. When we finally are seated, there are are about four dirty tables that haven't been bused...and they stayed dirty the entire time we were there. Our waiter didn't show up at our table for 15 minutes after we'd been seated. Every member of the staff treated the customers as if we were in their way and interrupting thier day. The food was mediocre at best and overpriced in my opinion. We go out to eat very often, and have NEVER been more upset with the service or food ANYWHERE! There are several other restaurant in Galveston that have deck seating overlooking the water available. Go to ANY of them instead, if that's what you're looking for. Don't waste your money, your time, or your appetite here.
- Pros: We never have to go back
- Cons: Very rude staff, tasteless food, dirty tables
Worst Service Ever!

I brought my family and after we were seated we were asked to hurry up with our order. Chef came to the table and was very rude. Never will visit again.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Service
More than a tourist trap, this eye-catching eatery offers reliable seafood and great views.

In Short
This bustling two-story eatery offers diners an excellent view of Surfer's Alley. The expansive upstairs deck is a prime attraction, but tables in the clubby interior aren't bad. A small lounge area next to an upstairs fireplace lends a touch of class to what, at first, seems like another high-volume tourist operation. A crab platter, with lump meat, au gratin and stuffed items, should warm crab lovers' hearts. Steak, pasta and sandwiches provide alternatives for those with more landlocked tastes.
Bsd service with just below average food

The service was really bad. Had to talk to manager just to get a few condiments and our check. The food was just OK and the kids did not like their meals at all. It will not be on the list of places to eat next time.... No matter what time of day there is always a long wait....
