Why is there no other choice for gas service?!
by lbayard at Citysearch
I've decided to go without gas since there's no other provider. I had to do most of the work when hooking up service since the installer was unable or unwilling to reach the connection. They charged me twice for the connection fee. Customer service agents were rude and not at all helpful. My bill went from $14 (summer) to $84(winter) for a one room efficiency apartment and they said this was normal and I would be charged large fees if I wanted someone to double check the meter or look for leaks! Shouldn't there be more than one choice for gas service?
Wish I Could Find an Alternative Natural Gas Company...

Inflated charges (the majority of your bill consists of about $30 of flat fees they charge whether you have used any gas or not). But the main gripe is that customer service is terrible--representatives have absolutely no useful information or helpful suggestions, and try to make up for it through rudeness to the customer. If anyone ever tells you that they or their manager will call back, don't expect a call back ever. Will disconnect service without prior notice, and/or for very small amounts of overdue payments (less than $20). Disconnected our gas for no reason a few weeks after we ordered it in our new home, yet billed us for it anyway. When we called multiple times to say that the gas is not on, they told us our appliances must be broken. When it was found by a technician that the gas was not on, they changed the story to claim that we had requested disconnection of service several weeks ago (not true--we hadn't even moved in yet). Took about 3 months for them to cancel charges for the month that the gas was mistakenly disconnected. We had a leak in our meter, resulting in exorbitant gas bill one month; took 3 phone calls before they sent someone out to look at it, and they never refunded any of the excessive charges we incurred as a result of the leak. (They have been "investigating" this issue for 8 months now, and we are holding our breath waiting for the "call back").
