Most Elegant Salon & Spa

I worked for Lin Murphy 8 years ago. I left the Salon to have my baby and was forced to lease my station at other Salons. They were fine but I always missed the team work that I had experienced at Murphy's. I was glad when I ran into LIn one day and she asked me to keep them in mind when I returned to work after my surgery. When it was time to return to work, Lin and I talked and I was so exited to see that they had room for me to rejoin the team. I've been back since Feb. 2009 and I simply couldn't be happier. Many people do not realize how many years of experience that the hairdressers alone have. The average is around 20 +. Where else can you find that. I simply believe that you get what you pay for and you are in great hands at Murphy's Retreat!
- Pros: Staff and Surroundings

Lin Murphy is an AMAZING owner!
by salon and spa at Citysearch
Lin is great to work for and with. After 25 years in business, she still has the same passion for this industry. She invests so much in keeping her salon in style, fresh and clean for her guest and staff to enjoy. I have worked for her for 9 years and with her for almost 5. In all those years I have seen her bend over backwards to help people. She would give anyone the shirt off of her back if she knew they needed it! Lin and the staff at Murphy's do our best to accommodate our guest. After reading some of these past comments you might be turned off, but please, I invite you to come experience our services for yourself. If you do and there is an issue you do not agree with, I would be more than happy to speak with you and compensate you for any inconvenience we may have caused you. Then you can decide if what the comments say are always so, or if it may have been an incident from a past employee. I look forward to reading all new comments, afterall, they can only help us improve our business for you! Thank you for your time. -Monserrat Ramirez-Canales, Salon Manager
- Pros: Great, friendly staff. The perfect place to work!
Not going back for hair....
by kknight67 at Citysearch
Went there a couple of months ago and was blown away by the price. Just got highlights and a cut (no lowlights) and when I went to pay, was told it was $155.00!!! Now I get this done every 3-4 months and usually pay around 100.00 which is to be expected...but 155.00!!! She did an ok job but not spectacular. I went to another local salon and paid 85.00 and she did a great job and I will return to her again.
I think Murphy's retreat is a nice place (had a great massage there once and it was very resonable) But as far as getting hair done it seems that they think they and their services are a lot more valuable then they actually are....
went to murphy's when moving to pasadena
by amandam34 at Citysearch
when i first moved to the pasadena area 5 years ago, i went to murphy's retreat. i loved it. mandy did my hair. over the 2 years of going to mandy, she did exactly what i asked and did a great job,i was always impressed with her work. but as time went on, the pricing went up big time and the girls were more worried about the previous nights out on the town or what was being planned that night. it began to become annoying so i stopped going. i felt that they were more concerned with one onther and their nights out than the customer. i miss the awesome haircuts and color that i got.
- Pros: got in and got out, got the haircut and style that i wanted
- Cons: girls were to busy talking to one another
Never again

Started going to Murphys Retreat and things were very well, except the person that did the waxings-was always late. She went out to eat during one of my appts. Would have the first appt. of the day and she would be late. Tammy was great at nails. After she left it was a dud for a nail tech. Had my hair done. The first time was fine-expensive. But the 2nd time girl was too interested in single guy that came in and left my colour on too long and burnt my hair. Plus the dye was all over my face!
All in all they just kept raising prices. Wax does not cost that much, but prices would rise $5. I just stopped. THis is not a spa, very noisy.
The best haircut for curly / wavy hair
by heg97 at Citysearch
I had the best haircut I have ever had in my life from Tommy, who luckily had and evening appointment available. He not only cut my curly hair to perfection, I can actually wear my hair in different styles, despite the humidity.
The pricetag was excellent, and I couldn't be happier to come back.
