What is oxygen therapy?What does it do, and why is it important to personal care? we might start first with some simple questions- what is oxygen? and why is it so important to us? oxygen gas is a tasteless, odorless element that’s absolutely vital for the respiration process. without it, most organisms die within minutes. according to the national Heart, lung and blood Institute, “oxygen therapy is a treatment that provides you with extra oxygen, a gas that your body needs to work properly.” limited doses of oxygen can offer therapeutic benefits, such as reduction in toxins and an increase in mental alertness and acuity. normally, our lungs absorb oxygen from the air. however, diseases and other health conditions can prevent a person from getting the oxygen he or she needs. oxygen therapy can help you get enough oxygen, which can help you function better and be more active. (National heart and lung Institute). when you use oxygen therapy at Planet Beach, you get to relax in the comfort of your own room. our oxygen tank elevates the oxygen concentration in the air from about 22% to about 95% oxygen, not enough to be medical grade (which would require a doctor’s prescription) but enough that clients have reported greater energy and less stress when done with their session. clients use a nasal cannula, or “nose hose” to receive oxygen from our onyx Plus machine, where it is gently filtered through a small oxygen cylinder that contains aromas like earl grey tea or raspberry. research has shown that slightly increasing the level of oxygen in the blood stream, or oxygenation, can also be beneficial in treating the symptoms associated with such conditions as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). (If you have a serious pulmonary condition, please consult your physician prior to using this service).
