worth the wait, best takeout in Katy.
the Canton Chef has recently reopened in its small slot next to Jason's Deli in Katy. From the outside it looks the same, still offers the cheapest lunch plate in town ($3.50 as of 1/1/07) and it has photos of its dishes in the front windows and above the order counter for the curious.
What is different is the food. The new chef recently took over after a stint at one of the upmarket chinese restaurants in west houston and it shows. There are new dishes like the butterfly shrimp (think the best of shrimp, bacon, and egg and you get the picture), in fact any dish with shrimp is a winner here. Another favorites is the Singapore noodles, a dry noodle dish that will comfortably feed four. The pot-stickers are small, but very meaty in flavor and texture and the rest of the menu includes all the regulars plus a few extras - try the Happy Family if you want a protein feast.
The only down side is this is a small place, only four tables, and if you don't phone ahead you can expect a wait for a large order or anything not on the special list (on a whiteboard near the order window.) There is water and soft drinks available but no beer/wine as of this review (1/1/2007)
Also English is definately a second language here, the photos are a great help if you want to know what is in the dishes (the photos in the front windows are the most recent)
