Still the Best! – This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Bellaire/ West U area. Don't let the strange location fool you! The food is consistently great - tasty and healthy. My kids love going there and eating as much as we do. Everything we have tried has been cooked to perfection and well seasoned. I think this is a little hidden gem and am so glad they are still around. My husband recommends the Herman Park Duck and I think the Tofu and Broccoli is perfection. The kids split Sweet and Sour chicken and Vegetable with Noodles. Meals come with brown rice as an option which is always great. We also love the almond cookie dessert with the fortune cookie. YUM!
Also, just a note that this is a good place for kids. They go out of their way to make the kids feel welcome and that is appreciated.
Still the Best in Houston – We visited Daniel Wong's Kitchen Saturday - a must-stop when we're in Houston.
Spring Rolls and Crab Puffs were great (real Crab!)
The "Crispy Hermann Park Duck" was as good as the first time I had it ~40 years ago, when it was called "Westlake Duck".
Verbal jests abound in Mr. Wong's whimsical, friendly and extensive menu. Then there's "We'll make it YOUR way" 3-paragraph Welcome and Introduction to the menu; UNPARALLELED, and pure joy to read.
The vegetable-only Hot-n-Sour soup is the best anywhere I've ever dined.
Steeped in personal tradition and impeccable food quality, Daniel Wong's is quiet, unassuming and features fantastic, original takes on what most Americans THINK is Chinese Food.
Local diners enter and address Mr. Wong by his first name. It's that kind of place.
I cannot offer superlatives enough about this place for fantastic tastes, variety unparalleled elsewhere, and the most customer-friendly, accomodating menu I've ever encountered in a restaurant anywhere at any price.
PRICE? Unbelievably affordable, what I call 'stupid cheap'. Appetizers <$5, most entrees <$10 that could cost 2 X as much and still be bargains.
Fresh, original, and 40 years of quality I know of, I cook and am hypercritical.
Daniel Wong's is GENUINE.
The negative posters here obviously had exceptional, not typical experiences, or short history curves with good Asian cooking, (with a 'Texas Twist'!)
Fresh experience – I took my wife and daughter here last Saturday afternoon and we had a great experience. The vegetables are very fresh and the fried foods were cooked in (for lack of a better term) light tasting oil. All of the food that we had was very healthy and fresh tasting. They have earned new customers with my family.
Oh, and did I say the food was fresh? :)
Not a good thing - What happened to Daniel – I have eaten at Daniel Wong's Kitchen years ago and it was good. Good food and a good price. BUT that is all in the past. The food I ordered tonight was not even good enough to get to the top of my worst list. 5 thumbs down. Does not rate the one star that I have to use to post this.
Outstanding Chinese Food and Service! – Name one other restaurant in all of Houston that you can call and ask the chief to prepare whatever HE would like just for you and your family and/ or friends without having to select from the menu!?!?! I can't think of one other one. For many eateries, it's hard to get a substitution in a meal. So how many places are you confident enough in that you can give the chief free-reign? Well, Daniel Wong's Kitchen is just that kind of place! Menu items are sumptuous meals with creative names, or you might want something a bit more personalized - but, no matter what you are served, you can rest assured it will be delicious! Personal service is the name of the game for Daniel. Wonderful, warm, accommodating and most importantly, an excellent chief!
Very special place – To me, Daniel Wong's Kitchen is more then just a good place to eat. It's a place my girlfriend and I have spent 3 anniversaries at which makes it special to us. The actual building is small and feels like a hole in the wall spot but when you find it you feel like you've discovered a gem, and you have.
Some people say this isn't very good Chinese food, but really this is a southern and more healthy twist to traditional Chinese food. The prices are very reasonable, and the traffic in store is low, which makes this a great place to have a conversation over dinner. The food is excellent! I have a taste for the Mushroom Stuffed Chicken, but when I've ordered other things before I wasn't let down. Try the Roadkill Pork appetizer, you won't regret it.
When served you are given a rice bowl for the table, a plate, and your food will be on a platter. This family style serving makes sharing food very easy, and with a larger group you get an idea on what you're missing out on for next time. (I learned the duck was great last time I was there with a group)
I would recommend this place to anyone, even though I feel like I'm giving up my secret restaurant.
Great food, crazy fast delivery! – This was my first time eating takeout from Daniel Wong's. I ordered two entrees and cream cheese puffs and egg rolls. The General Tso's was good, not too fried, and the other entree, a spicy steamed chicken with veggies was great! And the speed of delivery was amazing! We must have received our food within 20 minutes of ordering! Definitely my new favorite Chinese delivery!
One of the best – I really loved how healthy this restaurant is. I totally loved it, there is no wait!!
"WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER" – I consider myself some what of an conseuier of chinese food, I also like to try new places to eat. So I browsed thru the internet and found Daniel wong's kitchen, After reading some of the reviews I place an order over the phone (Wonton soup, Egg roll and General Toa's Chicken) the Wonton Soup was over cooked & Bland the egg roll was tasteless and the general toa's chicken was so sour I could'nt eat it. By far the WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER! When I made my complaint to the mgr, Instead of trying to make it right gave me all kinds of grief over the phone. Like I said this was the WORST experience I ever had with Chinese food. I would'nt give this rest. a recommondation if I got paid for it. A total ZERO from start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hidden Gem, No Hype – Daniel Wong's is a tradition in my family because the food is fresh, of excellent quality and always just plain hits the spot. It's a quiet little unasuming place - like so many of the best restaurants are. Very often, Daniel can be seen chatting with customers in the dining room. Don't like something or need a recommendation? He'll visit your table too.
Great place, not to miss.
