Best queso anywhere. If you like queso, salsa, and enchiladas check out Lopez. My family has been going since the doors opened about 30 years ago. Mr. Lopez, Jonathan Lopez, Santiago, and the rest of the crew will take care of you as if you're family. The queso and service are unmatched.

Heart and Magic. I was reading the Best of City Search for the Best Mexican Restaurant in Houston the other day and I was surprised to see Lopez Mexican Restaurant on Wilcrest listed at number one. I had expected to see Picos or Lupe Tortillas or even Chachos at the top. As a resident of Sugar Land, I have driven by this restaurant many many times with never the intention to check it out.

After reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try. Keep in mind, I have been in the restaurant business for most of my life and have managed and general managed some of the most popular and successful restaurants in Houston and Dallas. Here is what I discovered. Think of it as a mini shoppers report. I will try to keep it brief.

Arrived at 9:15 PM greeted by owner, welcomed me and shook my hand, seated me, and took my drink order.

Cold beer delivered within 2 minutes (ice still on the bottle) with chips and salsa. At least 2 people have checked on me by this point.

First course delivered within 5 minutes. Second course delivered within seconds of removing my first plate. They would almost have to be circling the dining room with my food waiting for the first plate to be taken. Food too hot to eat. (temp). Last taste of food was almost as hot as the first. Manager visits table, I tell him it's great. 2 beers 2 plates of food $13.

This place is successful because it has heart. Everyone cares, lots of staff, all are genuinely concerned about the customer. Place was super clean. Bathrooms immaculate. Owner dusting and polishing artifacts during downtime. Just had Enchiladas, rice, beans, queso, guacamole, and beef taco. Just what I wanted served hot, fresh and quick.

Keep up the magic and the sincere desire to take care of the customer and run a restaurant the way that it should be. Good Luck to Lopez, you will see me again.

Overrated but very popular. If I live to be 100, I will never understand this restaurant's cult-like popularity. People in Southwest Houston/Sugarland all seem to love the place, but I've eaten there several times with friends and co-workers and I just don't get it. The food was inconsistently prepared from visit to visit; I suppose that means different people were in the kitchen those days, but if I have a dish I like, I want to be able to reliably have it anytime I go to a restaurant.

The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is almost always crowded, so I guess my opinion is in the minority. The food is not bad, just kind of "meh". I'd give it a C+.

GREAT PLACE, THE REVIEWS ARE ALL TRUE!. From the get go I knew this place was going to be great from all the reviews I have read about the great Lopez Mexican Restaurant. The reviews all were true. The food is great, the menu is great, and the service is great. The only thing I would comment on is that Lopez has become bigger, wealthier and more refined. So with all that in mind, go in big groups or your seated in the corner and also dress conservative. Other than dressing a little nicer than a tshirt your trip should be well worth it.

Out of this world. This has become an all time favorite for me. I have verbally recommended it to everyone I know. If you love Mexican food you have to try this place. No matter how far you have to drive do it because it is well worth it. The service was outstanding, there was no wait and the hostesses were very pleasant. Our drinks were always filled the food was hot and the salsa was right on the money. They even have a wonderful childrens menu and I don't have children. Take my advice and try it out today!

User review by mbenefield. I have been comming to Lopez for just about a year now. At first I was frustrated with myself that I had not heard about this place earlier. Forget Gringo's, Chachos, and even Pico Pico's. This place tops them all. The service is the key, all of the waiters do an excellent job keeping your tea full and you happy. The food is the best in the city, and the queso is to die for.. Forget the rest and try the best.

20 years eating here.. Have been coming to Lopez restaraunt for the 20 years I have lived in Houston, have never had 1 bad meal, or bad service. All the wait staff is friendly and ready to help you in any way. Cannot get better food or service for the price. I'll be coming here for another 20 years and more.

A friendly, family-run outpost of Tex-Mex fare in far southwest Houston.. In Short
Located just off the Southwest Freeway, Lopez's moderate prices, casual atmosphere and attentive waitstaff make it a neighborhood favorite. Expect a lineup of the traditional Tex-Mex favorites--fajitas, combination plates and taco salads. House specialties include a jazzed-up beef tostada, creamy guacamole and cheese enchiladas. Margaritas get high marks with the regulars.

Great Mexican Food & Excellent Service. I have been going to Lopez for less than a yr now.

I always receive a great meal that fills me up, exceptional cust. service. , and prompt seating.

The last time that I went, it was busy and still was seated w/in 10 minutes. Cheap prices for the taste & Quantity of food. 2 to 3 dollars cheaper than the Mexican restaurants in my residential area. Wish they were open on Sundays.
