Rip Off on Service

I bent a prong on my diamond setting but was new to Houston and didn't know where to take my ring. So I checked out places on line, saw Reiner's had good ratings and a convenient location, so I went to them first. They were very friendly and knowledgeable, but quoted me $200 to fix my ring and that I'd have to leave it overnight. I believe they were including re-rodium fees in that, since my band is white gold, but I still thought it sounded very high. So i walked away and went to another place, Galaxie jewelers, who fixed my ring right there on the spot for free and cleaned my ring to where it looked brand new. They said my ring had no need to be re-rodiumed yet, that it just needed a thorough cleaning. I'm so glad I didn't just leave me ring at Reiner's. They may be a good place to buy, I wouldn't know, but from being almost ripped off $200 bucks, I'll never go here again or send anyone I know to them. BEWARE!
- Pros: AGA certified, friendly
- Cons: over charge for service
Great Service and a Quality Product
by weirdfish
I visited Reiner's based on a suggestion from a friend. I was helped by Steven Reiner who helped me find an engagement ring and I was very happy with the results. After finding the band that I like the most he showed me several diamonds of differing sizes and qualities that I could select from and put them together at a competitive price. Also, it was the only place that offered the corresponding GIA certificate. After visiting a handful of other jewelry stores, this one stands out to me.
- Pros: Service, selection and family shop feel
Rude Service
by chdeal27
My fiance and I walked into the jewelry store, walked up to the counter and were greeted by an older man behind the counter. I told him what we were looking for and we followed him to a part of the store where he could show us some diamonds. He thumbed through some similar diamonds since he did not have the exact diamond we were looking for. When I told him the carat we were looking for he said smugly , "that won't look like anything on a ring." He did not even show us anything yet and he basically told us that our choice was a bad one. There was no where to go from there. I can only assume that he was the owner or manager because he could afford to be so abrupt and rude. Or business is so good that they can turn away business.
- Pros: Seem to have a good reputation
- Cons: Rude Service
