One happy foodie, thanks Cafe Laurier!. Cafe Laurier is small by most restaurant standards, but this little joint does not disappoint in the areas that count. It calls itself New American, but Cafe Laurier's chef uses French techniques, resulting in high quality, artfully prepared cuisine.

On a beautiful sunny day, we were looking for nice patio seating for a girl's lunch out. Think "Sex and the City" style lunch - where would you go? Turns out Cafe Laurier was the perfect place for intimate girl talk and alfresco dining. With royal blue umbrellas and comfortable seating, not to mention a breath of fresh air, the patio was the perfect spot for our rendezvous. We started with the crab cake, 100% pure lump crabmeat, lightly crisped and oh-so-good - one of my favorite dishes here. For entrees we ordered the hangar steak frites, the fresh fish of the day (snapper with lemon butter), and salmon salad. The dishes came artfully presented and everything tasted wonderful! I could not resist my friend's frites and helped her with her dish, while savoring my lightly crisped snapper. The snapper was really delicious, and while I had a bit of steak envy (I try not to eat heavy meals during lunch time), I knew I had chosen well. Quiet and intimate, Cafe Laurier is the perfect little spot for a nice lunch or dinner date, where you can sit and relax and enjoy food that tastes as great as it looks!

quaint romantic spot on richmond. don't let the small, modest exterior full you. inside is a quite spacious, dimly-lit room that is quaintly decorated and caters to any romantic occasion. although the food is pricey, the quality is quite good and our waiter was friendly and accomodating. go here if you want a romantic, trendy ambience for a dinner for 2.*

Fabulous Food without the Attitude!!. Fabulous food, great location, perfect service!! The food has the taste of "Mark's" (a pricey houston restaurant) without the attitude. Small restaurant with great atmoshere. Unusual look on the outside but wonderful and modern on the inside. The best quality food and very well priced. I great find you must try!!

Sunny bistro and wine bar with a French twist.. The Scene
Sophisticated wine buffs from nearby River Oaks rub shoulders with Gen Xers at this loosely stylish spot. Airy, artsy-industrial interiors are brightened with sunflower yellow, sky blue and crimson colored walls. Gerbera daisies perk up each table, as does the eager waitstaff. French doors reveal the deck, crawling with fragrant jasmine, perfect for alfresco dining.

The Food
Fresh and lean creations by chef-owner Gary Fuller fill the menu. Peppery, just-picked arugula salad comes gingerly drizzled with fine olive oil. Chilled asparagus soup is enriched with a dab of cream. Sushi-grade tuna arrives on a buttery melange of shaved fennel and leeks with vibrant green, toothy sugar snap peas. A big slab of dry-aged New York steak gets a spicy chipotle rub and a mountain of toothpick-thin, crispy fries. Desserts complement a well-crafted wine list.

Great crab cakes and atmosphere. I have been to Laurier three times and the appetizers were very good. However I have found the entrees to be inconsistent. Nice atmosphere and priced very well.

Mixed Feelings. Went for lunch with a good friend who hates goat cheese, and to our dismay, found a disproportionate number of items on the menu containing it. The croque monsieur was overcooked but still tasty; the salad was bland. The butternut squash soup was delicious, except we suspected goat cheese was in the sour cream or creme fraiche topping, and it was not mentioned on the menu. Lemon mousse very prettily presented, but not lemony enough. Parking and noise in restaurant unacceptable; pricey. Not a family place, not French, ambivalent service. Disappointing...hoped for more!

A big slice of heaven!. Myself and 3 friends ate at Laurier for lunch, and it was the best restaurant I have been to in quite a long time. Not only were we seated right away, btu the food came out quickly, and the wine was fantastic. The service was outstanding. For the freshness of the food and the selection, the prices are extremely moderate. The wine list is reasonably priced for the wide selection. For dessert, the chocolate cake is to die for! Sunday brunch is most popular at the restaurant, and the beautiful patio accomodates all the people who come. The atmosphere is very chic. I would not recommend taking your children to this restaurant, but I would highly recommend it to anyone else!

Pass the sauce, please. I recently had dinner at Laurier with 3 companions. We each had a different salad, entre and dessert. Each of us had the same impression--the food needed more seasoning or some sort of sauce. The atmosphere was suitably urban, the food presentation was beautiful and the service was perfect. The food, however, was plain, plain, and certainly not worth the price. The parking situation is ridiculous.

Ho-Hum. After reading the review on CitySearch, which touts the wine list, I decided to give to give Laurier a try. The food is pretty good, but most of the meat is "cheap" cuts--dark meat chicken served on the bone, strip steak, duck, lamb, and quail. The wine list was long and not terribly impressive to me. Only one Merlot was available by the glass. We ordered a half bottle of a decent wine, but overall, I was underwhelmed.

Noise level - deafening. The food was wonderful, the noise level was crushing. The restaurant was not even filled but I ended up hoarse after having to talk loud enough to even being heard. It is a shame when a nice restaurant is designed to maximize the noise level. Come if you have loud noisy friends and skip if you want a quiet dinner for 2 or 4.
