What Our Expert Scouts Say

Paulie's Restaurant

Well-located in the heart of Westheimer close to Montrose, Paulie's is comfortable fast-casual, and reasonably priced, a place where you can stop at anytime for sandwiches, pasta or great coffee, which is why it's not only popular in the neighborhood, but among chefs as well.

All of the regular Italian cafe choices on the menu: pastas, personal pizzas, paninis, sandwiches and salads, but all done so well and with a little something extra to push it past ordinary. Great happy hour, free wifi and a nice wine and craft beer list, make Paulie's a casual and cozy neighborhood hideaway.

Paulie's has been a HTX gem for quite a while, with well executed sandwiches & salads but the + of housemade pasta & coffee service has put them way ahead of their competition.

Average food, lousy service. Unfortunately, I will never go back to this restaurant even though it is so close to my home. Since we just had a baby, cooking has not really been an option and we had been ordering out to Paulie's almost once a week, and recommending it to relatives who come by to visit the baby.

I recently learned that my baby has very serious food allergies and I'm on a strict diet for breastfeeding and it limits me to what I can eat. I ordered something to go and when it got home I was nervous the dish had an ingredient that was not part of the diet. Concerned I called to ask about it. They accused me of lying and asked me to bring the dish in. I did, and to clarify what the ingredient was, the staff insulted me, insinuating maliciousness and that I was enjoying wasting my time coming back up to the restaurant, starving and really just wanting to eat.

Save your time and money and go to any number of comparable restaurants with better atmosphere and better service on Westheimer.

Best looking and tasting Sugar Cookies in town!. Love the food and the dessert! Pizzas and paninis, salads, and pastas are all great! The sugar cookies are the best in town. I am getting these cookies for my wedding as favors... i love them so much!

Order the Shrimp Sandwich. A new take on the traditional BLT fare, their grilled shrimp BLT sandwich is bursting with flavor. I've had this sandwich 3 times, and I'm stuck on it. They'll substitute a wheat roll for the white if you ask. It's served with a side of eggless potato salad. They use red new potatoes, and I like that it's not slathered with heavy mayo. The Mediterranean pasta with pesto vinaigrette is also a winner. It has shell pasta with spinach, celery, calamata olives, artichoke hears, and feta. Ladies, the "small" serving is the perfect portion size.

I normally eat here on weekend afternoons, and the one downside to this place are a few of the cashiers/order takers. How can I put this ever so kindly . . . but these guys are afflicted. Sleep deprivation, hangover, or just plain dumb. I can't figure it out. I've been told the staff working days are on top of their game, so I'll make a point to stop in on my lunch hour one of these days.

Perfect for an Italian lunch break, a gourmet pick-up or a casual dinner and drink after work.. In Short
The environs are loft-like in their chic minimalism, but the walls are warmed by local artists' work, all for sale. Along with the recently added pizzas, you'll find stalwart Italian fare like fettuccine and grilled shrimp with roasted tomato sauce, alongside seared tuna sandwiches with wasabi mayonnaise. The crowd includes the yoga set, the St. John's mom with kids in tow and Montrose's gay contingent.

a trendy italian restaurant. the food is good although i wouldn't say it has the home-cooked qualities and mom-and-pop charm to it like the smaller italian restaurants do. same goes with the ambience: i love how it's located on the eclectic end of westheimer, but it's coporate-trendy presence seems out of place and not as cozy or homey as one should expect from an italian restaurant. one of it's other highlights is the mini pastry display, which is delectable to look at. but i think i'll stick to the other cozy italian restaurants that'll give me a better dining experience on a more personal level.*

Great deal!!!. 2 veal chops, pasta, AND salad for under $30!!!. Way cheaper and the chops taste way better than Carrabba's or even a more high end restaurant.

Delicious!. Paulie's has delicious paninis - I love it for lunch. The Greek pasta salad that accompanies much of their menu items is excellent. One of my FAVORITE lunch spots. Reasonably quick service and excellent food. The only slight drawback is that the place is somewhat small, and you have to keep your eyes peeled for an open table.
