The Hobbit Cafe has been serving Houstonians for over 32 years. We have a unique restaurant which serves some of the best cuisine in town. Try our black bean nachos, monterey jack cheese, pico de hallo, jalapenos and sour cream. Amazing salads like the tropical chicken salad-fresh Spring mix, fruit, toasted almonds tossed in a tropical yogurt dressing topped with jerk chicken and toasted coconut. The Gandalf sandwich (avocado and mushrooms under melted cheese), avocado burger, buffalo burger and black bean burger are very tasty. Try the Caribbbean Salmon, grilled with spices and topped with jerk sauce, mango salsa and toasted coconut, valinor-steamed vegies piled high over brown rice and beans.

The Scene
Don't let the white picket fence that surrounds Hobbit's quaint, Tudor-style exterior fool you. The snug interiors, dotted with mystical artwork and washed in terra-cotta and mossy colors, are as earthy as the former site, which opened 26 years ago. The whimsical driftwood chair at the entrance and branch-handled doors take you back to the forest.
The Food
If you're not a health nut, don't despair--you'll still be able to please your palate. There are strong vegetarian choices, soothing homemade soups, enchanting sandwiches and bountiful salads (note the Greek with blackened chicken or ambrosial fruit salad tossed in yogurt, honey, almonds and coconut). Wrap up this bewitching tale with the moist, towering carrot cake. Key lime pie and white-and-dark chocolate mousse cake are also on the menu. Parched? Try the fruit smoothies and fresh juices and a limited selection of beer and wine.

This is such an interesting place. If you want a fun place to take a date that is not too knowledgeable about the city then you should go here. It's hidden, it's dorky and it's fun. The food used to be pretty amazing here. The last couple of times i have gone I've been pretty disappointed. I would suggest sticking to the burgers and sandwiches. I've had other things but those are their solid items. Pretty creative ways of pairing flavors too. Seating inside is a bit cramped and sitting outside in Houston is not great for a place that doesn't get a good enough breeze. Parking is also tight, considering the lot is small and the side street is usually packed on a Friday or Saturday night. If you go during the week, you have an opportunity to get great parking. All in all i think this place is worth a visit for anyone who has never been. You just may be disappointed in some of the food.

This is a pretty weird place with good options for vegetarians. My girlfriend is a veggie and enjoys the food a lot, whenever I go with her it's good. We usually try to take our food to go though.

The Hobbit continues to be my favorite place to take real estate clients new to Houston. After a single introduction, they continue to return for the healthy portions of healthy food. Service is great lead by a family owned and operated business that's survived the test of time. Absolutely a great place to go for burgers or to test the taste buds of the picky vegitarian. Inside or out, it's my favorite place for casual dining.
