“It is a great place to eat with a huge menu and a lot of that 50's ambiance.”
“To complete the perfect burger-fry indulgence, add a chocolate malt.”
“That is what this place is all about, the food might not be great, the prices might not be competitive, the location might not be the best, but it has that certain element of charm that makes you keep coming back over an over.”
“the food is excellent and the variety on the menu is great!”

“service/food. It's a good value as well!”
“The food was great and prices were reasonable.”
“go there for really good milkshakes, and quick”
Milkshakes at 3am can never be wrong.
24 hour greasy food and milkshakes, what's the worst that could happen?
I am glad I live far from 59 diner. I am sure that if I were unlucky enough to live within walking distance to it, my weight would skyrocket. There is just a certain appeal that a greasy burger and milkshake has at 4 am that makes this place so dangerous. I don't think I would come in during the day, as their food truly is nothing to write home about, but when it's 4 am and I'm craving sweet it's a whole different story.
As the name would suggest, the diner has a 50's theme going on that is quite endearing, complete with deep booths where you and your loved one can share a milkshake in the wee hours of the morning. That is what this place is all about, the food might not be great, the prices might not be competitive, the location might not be the best, but it has that certain element of charm that makes you keep coming back over an over. I know I do.
Get your grub on at a '50s-style malt shop without going back to the future..
In Short
The retro diner theme is everywhere; from the chrome and Formica tables to the "soda jerk" uniforms. Late-night crowds of varying ages pack the room, seeking good ol' comfort cuisine. The popular standard is the juicy chicken tenders. Chili-cheese fries are made with real grated cheese, not cheese sauce. The hamburgers are excellent, even better when accompanied by an old-fashioned malt. Thicker than wet cement, the huge desserts (served in a parfait glass with the remainder in a container) are best when shared.
Great Family Restaurant. When I find a restaurant for dinner that my 11 year old, his friends and I can all agree on, life doesn't get much better than that for a parent. A wide variety of high quality food, low prices, excellent service, and wonderful ambience make the 59 Diner @Sheperd a great family friendly restaurant. Did I mention it was family friendly....
Best diner in town!.
Great chicken fried steak, burgers, grilled chik. salad., chick. tenders, catfish basket.
Plentiful portions and sides. One of the best chocolate malts in town, although the price is getting steep. Kid's love this place!
Best overall family diner in Houston. The 59 Diner on Shepherd at Kirby has just about everything you might want to eat from Chef's Salads to Hamburgers and more. It is a great place to eat with a huge menu and a lot of that 50's ambiance. Go there every time I am in that area.
milkshake please.
Breakfast favorite. Atmosphere is always comfortable. Service is excellent.
Milkshakes rule.
Great Milkshakes!. I don't know about 59 Diner serving "comfort food". I go there for really good milkshakes, and quick service/food. It's a good value as well!
Supreme Fun. Great food, Great portions, Great prices and tons of fun. What more could you ask for - and it's easy to locate.
trendy. This is a place that brings back good memories of days gone by - the 1950's. The food is excellant, the service is good, the prices are good and the amount of food served is more than enough.
Wonderful Service Everytime. The food is always consistent here. So is the service. It is laid back and you can just have a good ole fashion time here. You gotta go!
