The Scene – A cheery coffeehouse fashioned with photos of the Big Easy, Crescent City serves made-to-order beignets and honey, café au lait and hot chocolate. Late nights and chilly days pack in lingering River Oaks patrons and nearby Lamar High School students who salivate for the genuine flavor of these Café Du Monde-style beignets: perfectly puffed, just-fried pillows snowed in powdered sugar. – – The Food – You can nurse more than your caffeine and sweet-tooth habit here. Line up cafeteria-style for blue-plate lunches like shrimp Creole, gumbo or hearty…
So-So very disappointed

I went to Crescent City Beignets with high expectations. My friend told me that it was the place to get the best beignets. The place itself is a hole-in-the wall. The floor and air in the place is dingy. The food is ok. I ordered the breakfast croissant it was so-so. The beignet strips were ok, they tasted like the funnel cake at the rodeo. The service was ok, we waited 20 minutes for 4 beignet strips! Definitely not impressed. If you are looking for a great breakfast try somewhere else!
- Cons: Food and service
The Beignets are fabulous

I was so happy to find this place being a displaced Cajun (happy to be in Texas though!). The beignets bring me back to my days at LSU where my friends and I hung out at Coffee Call for beignets and the ever needed cafe au lait.
The gumbo has on and off days (don't know why). Sometimes it's right on and sometimes not (too spicy or not enough spice or even once, didn't taste fresh). It's consistent enough for me to keep ordering it.
The only drawback that I see is the service. It's horrid. The ladies behind the counter must hate people in general and must hate working there in particular. Thankfully I've never been personally insulted but I've been there when other customers have been - even verbally abused! Not favorable for that reason alone.
Get your food to go and get out of there is my best advice.
- Pros: The food is great - the beignets make me homesick
- Cons: Service is beyond awful
Gumbo too peppery to enjoy
by ThisIsNotRealGumbo at Citysearch
I ordered the seafood gumbo for this first time. I am a cajun from Lousisana and can personally tell you that this is not what gumbo suppose to taste like. It was so peppery that I could not taste the gumbo and spent most of my meal drinking water to cool down my mouth. This is NOT a good seafood gumbo. And the price ? Over $10 ! Never again. If you haven't eaten their gumbo yet, I suggest you try a sample first and save your money - just step next door to Subway and get a decent meal for the money.
- Pros: Close to work although this fact doesn't do you any good !
- Cons: Bad gumbo, too expensive
