What People Are Saying About Crescent City Beignets

The Scene – A cheery coffeehouse fashioned with photos of the Big Easy, Crescent City serves made-to-order beignets and honey, café au lait and hot chocolate. Late nights and chilly days pack in lingering River Oaks patrons and nearby Lamar High School students who salivate for the genuine flavor of these Café Du Monde-style beignets: perfectly puffed, just-fried pillows snowed in powdered sugar. – – The Food – You can nurse more than your caffeine and sweet-tooth habit here. Line up cafeteria-style for blue-plate lunches like shrimp Creole, gumbo or hearty…

Love This Little Place!
by daporter
I love this little place, they do good food the simple and proper way. The beignets taste better than the ones I had in New Orleans, where I lived for years. I like the strips better. The seafood gumbo is on point! I also get the sandwich with grilled chicken, garlic mayo, and bacon. I eat here very often. The staff is very nice also.
The best beignets outside of New Orleans.. maybe better!!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw this place, you just don't expect to see a place like this outside of the New Orleans area. Ever since then I have come here at least once a month, sometimes more often, to get my beignet fix.
The beignets here are just great, even better than some places in New Orleans. They are a little bigger than Cafe du Monde's and can be ordered in sets of 3 and 12, or individually. Unlike Cafe du Monde, the beignets here are always fresh and made to order and there are other desserts also available for order.
As for the rest of the menu, they offer a host of New Orleans favorites.. however most people will probably overlook these right away, as everyone has a sweet tooth.
In terms of service, this place is generally pretty friendly; though at times it is also hit and miss(usually when the place is packed, which is understandable), but never a bad experience.
If they ever run out of beignets, they will tell you when more will be ready, which is usually no more than 20 minutes. The people who run this place are from the New Orleans area and you can tell that they put a lot of love and pride into their work.
Overall, I really enjoy coming here and would recommend this place especially for it's beignets. It's good to see a beloved New Orleans tradition being so well embraced in Houston.
Damned good gumbo yaya

I've read several reviews about the unfriendly service at this restaurant, but I have to disagree! They catered gumbo, salad, and hush puppies for our Christmas dinner - the service was excellent, and Linda, our helper there, was delightful! I'd love to go out for cajun & drinks with her sometime!
We finished the left-over gumbo tonite, and it was sublime after time time in the freezer.
Thank you Linda and everyone else involved! Dale Mabry
Awesome Beignets, Lack of Customer Service!!!
by Charltonsbride
I have deep roots in New Orleans and I believe that this establishment has the somereally, really good Beignets. I found this place in passing and I stopped by for the first time yesterday. As mentioned, the Beignets are good but the customer service is horrible. It seemed as if the lady taking orders didnt want to be there thus made me not want to be there. When I asked for something in addition to my beignets, it was like a chore for the lady to get it for me and then she had an attitude. Its almost as if it was painful for her to provider service. I would definatly want to recommend this place for their beignets, but i would not recommend this place to anybody due to the lack of customer service.
Good Beignets; Horrible Service
by NativeHoustonian5
My family, friends and I have enjoyed going to Crescent City Beignets for years. The beignets are delicious and a fun end to an evening.
However, the service has gone down tremendously. We go between 9-10 pm (1-2 hours before closing) and the staff is clearly doing everything possible to push out all the customers to close early. They refuse to clean any tables and the trash cans over-flow. All the back tables have chairs stacked on top to prevent customers from using them. The staff is extremely grumpy and refuses to brew coffee past 9.
We even attempted to eat there tonight and they were completely out of ice and were utterly adverse to turning the ice-maker back on.
Its a shame that one of our favorite places has become so miserable to patronize. I wonder where the owner has gone that they'd let the restaurant die?
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Service is horrible and restaurant is filthy
