Great bakery but terrible staff. This place has exceptionally great pastries and baked goods. I have been going to this place since I was little and went to St. Anne's down to street and always looked forward to a cookie every once in awhile as an afterschool treat! I'm older now and I still go here for their pastries, however, I am turned off by their rude employees. Even the store manager is horrible. I went with my mother around 3:40 on a Saturday afternoon to run in and get some treats, when the sign on the door read "CLOSED" and the manager and employees were inside trying to ignore the people outside, when the store hours read 8 to 4! I just recently placed a cake order for my mother's birthday and even the lady answering the call was rather rude. The pastries are great but the staff is terrible!!!
Poor excuse for a baguette. I was hoping to find a great place for bread and pastries. I have lived in France and probably got overly excited when I saw 'French' and 'Bakery' on the same sign. The baguette was just white bread rolled into the shape of a baguette. It was very dense and chewy. I wanted to try a pastry, but everything looked like it had been in the case for a few days. For bread, I will stick to Central Market and Whole Foods.
Best Moka Rum Cake!. My aunt has been ordering the Moka Rum cake for all of our family parties for what seems like decades and it never fails to amaze us. Many vietnamese bakeries along the Bellaire Blvd. strip have tried to mimic this cake, but they always fall short (with the tiny exception of Le Duc). The cake is deliciously moist, rum-soaked, and rich. The great thing is that you can always ask for extra rum in the cake, but beware it is not for the faint of heart! I hope everyone gets a chance to experience this cake--it is well worth the cost!
French bakery mainstay for killer croissants, fresh baked bread and speedy lunches..
In Short
This locally owned boulangerie has been a longtime favorite for sinfully rich baked goodies and breads. Arrive early for the freshest croissants, especially the ever-popular chocolate almond variety. Baguettes rest alongside hearty loaves and cinnamon apple bread. The bakery case reveals strudels, éclairs, frosted cupcakes, towering cakes (from chocolate to a Grand Marnier-soaked black and white cake) and buttery cookies. Quick and tasty lunches include quiches, boxed lunches, daily specials, tarragon chicken salad and build-your-own sandwiches.
