What People Are Saying About Chuy's

The Scene – Austin-born, with typical collegiate attitude, Chuy's is a magnet for young and restless chili-heads. The bar scene, reminiscent of a college-frat gathering, is about as rowdy as it comes, with famous frozen "swirl" margaritas as tangy as Sweet Tarts, munchies served out of a Chevy trunk and a shrine to Elvis. – – The Food – Huge platters of Tex-Mex with freshly prepared Southwestern sauces dominate. The 911 Hot Plate will get your attention with stacks of blue-corn tortillas, grilled chicken and green-chili sauce, as will chili rellenos, Chuychangas and…

Service
The service at Chuy's is excellent. The next few times I go, I will take note of any exceptional waiters/waitresses and post them here.
Food
I eat alot of Mexican food, and sample the beef fajitas everywhere I go to figure out what is great and what is good. Chuys has good beef fajitas, but the main reason I go back is because of the service and value.
Value
The prices here are very reasonable, especially if you are sharing fajitas. Here is a price breakdown of my typical Friday evening for 2.
Fajitas for 1 - $11.29
2 Margaritas - $7
2 Waters - Free
$21 = total with tax and tip.
$10.50 /person, not bad at all!
$13 = total with tax and tip without drinks.
$6.50 / person, that's cheaper than McDonalds!

Never again

I loved Chuy's. I used to eat there when I lived in Austin, and I started eating there in Houston on Westheimer when I moved here. The food is pretty good: I love the jalapeno cream dip and chips! he margaritas are yummy. But it is always packed, and you never get an accurate wait time from the hosts. The service is usually rushed... you can tell there is a lot of turnover because you rarely see the same person 2 times.
On Thursday the 23rd of May, my boyfriend, daughter and I went to Chuy's at like 6:30 pm... the place was so busy. We waited only 10 minutes, and when we sat down, we each had drinks and appetizers, we totally wolfed down all of the food because we were starving and the queso was awesome. We ordered chicken fajitas to split, and when it came we ate one taco each and were going for seconds when my boyfriend noticed something in the onions he was scooping up for his taco: A familiar insect that starts with "R" that guidelines won't let me say!!!! It was not very small either, grilled into our fajitas!
We alerted our server, who alerted the manager, who was apologetic, but seemed resigned to losing our business, so she didn't offer to comp any future drinks (because lord knows we would never EAT there again, but maybe we would drink), nor did she take my information to have the General Manager call me, or even give me her business card. I work in sales, so I understand being caught off guard and not knowing the right thing to do when a situation this bad occurs, but you MUST follow up at the very least.
Needless to say I have a bad taste in my mouth, and I knew it was my duty to inform future patrons.
- Pros: jalapeno cream dip
- Cons: stressful and loud
Chuy's Restaurant Fahitas
by aliceannputman45
Well if you like fahitas a la' coachroach, this is the place to be!!!!
Picture this, Thursday night, lot's of people and the fahita's come out sizzling. At first glance they looked great, but on closer inspection there was a grilled huge coachroach cooked with the onions and peppers.
The manager was not very concerned, he offered to buy our dinner. I would hope so! In any case We will not go there ever again and I urge anyone else not to go as well.
How can a coachroach get cooked in our meal and go unnoticed by the whole staff. There must be a whole lot of them in the kitchen. Very Scary!
Plus the place stinks like a dirty dishrag. Than should have been my first clue!
Consider youself warned!
