“Atmosphere is nice, but I wouldn't recommend heading there for a romantic dinner.”
“love the beans and guacamole.”
“It is great food at very affordable prices, if you are hungry, this is the place to go.”
“I've been several times and always had great, attentive service.”
“Slow service, tiny plates of food, for a ridiculous price.”
Embarrassed that We Went, Continued.
Manager came to the table & stood over us, as I explained our situation. This conversation took quite some time, & I was appalled that the manager was so insensitive as to not realize how uncomfortable our guests were. His voice was loud & his manner condescending. He finally acquiesced & said that "for one time only" (meaning tonight, I suppose) he would ask the server to provide our table with two checks. As semi-regular customers, & in the past, we have never had difficulty in receiving separate checks, by the way.
Food orders placed; food delivered by another server. No queries from our own server as to additional margaritas, the quality of the meal, or "how are you doing?" Clean-up was abrupt and in the middle of three still eating. Had to ask for dessert, rather than it being suggested.
Finally: Waitress assumed we'd be leaving her (in the tip) the 88 cents of change due us, so instead of bringing our change ($16.88), she rounded it to a mere $16. This cost her $3 of her tip.
Conclusion: won't be back. By the way, we've been going there for two years.
Editorial Review. Slightly more upscale than the average Houston Tex-Mex restaurant, expect fresh ingredients, authentic menu items and a festive atmosphere.
Blah Food and High Prices. I gave this resteraunt two trys and both times ended up with food that was very sub-par and yikes it was expensive for what you got. I also ordered a Margarita to go with my meal and it was so stout it tasted like pure alcholol. I won't be coming back to this resteraunt ever again, especialy in a city like Houston which you should have no problem finding good Mexican food at a good price. Eater Beware
Excellente!.
Don't be put off by the hostesses when you come in. They don't seem to care, but this does not carry over to the waitstaff. I've been several times and always had great, attentive service.
The food is really good. The fajita nachos are first rate and appetizer sampler is fantastic. The burritos are good, but I've had much better. Try the Del Mar (great seafood enchiladas with a skewer of chicken & beef).
Great Tex Mex.
They have some of the best enchiladas I have ever tasted. Also there Margaritas had a good taste.
Be hungry if you order the taco salad...It's Huge
Okay American-Mexican. Ambience is good, prices okay. Clean & cheerful. Service very good. But if you're going for the food - relies too much on cheese to make it taste good. More emphasis on the American taste than the Mexican.
Escalante's is the BEST!!!. Try their mushroom fajitas...really good! Plus the ambience is really good...this place is definately one of the best Mexican restaurants in town!
Mi Casa. Always good food, good service at reasonable prices. Very clean. Adequate lighting and seating. Parking rarely a problem.
