Never Again..... Ok, I tried Outback for the 2nd time because of the Great American Steakout Promo. With the promo, you get a free steak dinner which consists of a 6oz. sirloin steak and 1 side. My husband and I went to the location off 610 (Meyerland Area) this evening to use our coupon. I got the free dinner and my husband ordered his dinner of choice from the menu. Since I will not be trying Outback for a 3rd time, I felt it was time to go ahead and express my feelings about this restaurant. To begin, the service was horrible, our waitress was young and unattentive, although very polite. She had the potential to be a very good waitress but she either lacked training or just worked in an environment of low expectations. Secondly, I ordered a well done steak and when I cut into it, blood came out. What saddened me the most is that it was a superficial cut which went just below the surface and there was already blood...so basically, they browned the steak really quick and dropped it onto a plate. Their menu says they are Zagat rated for 2009 and 2010. The Zagat crew member that rated this restaurant should lose his/her job. After sending the steak back and having it re-arrive at my table minus the blood, I dove into it thinking this was going to be a killer good steak...for it is a Zagat Rated restaurant. Well, to my surprise, the fat and grizzle encompassed a nice 1/3 of my 6oz steak...so my dinner all of a sudden turned into an appetizer. After finishing my appetizer, I was ready to cut my loses and move on. Thankfully, our waitress placed our receipt on our table immediately after delivering our meals...I can only assume this is because most people can't wait to break free of this place after getting a taste of their food and service so the staff has become accustomed to filling requests for early exit and to speed along the process, your bill comes out with your food...definitely "First Class". After reviewing the bill, I realized they overcharged my husband and I by $1 for our meal..I didn't expect anything less so I wrote a note on the receipt to let the waitress know she could get an extra $1 tip if she corrected the bill...and I left. For the money you spend to eat here, in my opinion, it's not worth it...go elsewhere.
Australian tchotchkes and brews give this quintessentially American restaurant a distinctive Down Under flavor..
In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.
excellent. prime ministers prime rib rare is excellent, and the salads are good as well
Very Worth the Money. My man and I live in Montrose, but we always eat here. They score high on food taste, portions, price, and servings. It is a little bit noisy, but not so bad that we can't talk. I would recommend the call ahead seating, esp on Fri and Sat nights. For food I recommend the Rockhampton Ribeye with grilled shrimp or lobster tail, and the delicious caesar salad. The mixed drinks are all wonderful, too.
