Creative Pairings and Beautiful Presentations. My husband and I have been eating at Cafe Red Onion for more than a decade and have introduced many other people to this wonderful restaurant. The menu items are unique, which can be a disappointment to people looking for traditional Mexican/Tex-Mex food, so I always try to warn people in advance. The prices are reasonable for the quantity and quality, but service has become a little inconsistent as the number of locations has grown. And I wish they would use a little less salt, especially on the chips. Nonetheless, I've never been disappointed by the food and we always count on a delicious meal.

Awful service and long waits for your food. I will never eat here again! It took OVER an hour to get our food. The waiter never came to our table before our food came out to ask if we needed refills or to say sorry for the long wait. When we finally got our food, i was very upset b/c they gave me what i said i 'didn't' want on my plate. I said only give me the fajita not all the sides. Well my plate was loaded with the rice and guacamole...etc, and i had to send the fajita back b/c the sides got mixed in with it. I do not recommend this place. My friends have also told me that the other Red Onion restaurants are the same way. Bad service and VERY long waits! Waste of time!!!

Good people watching, good atmosphere, and great food for the price.. My wife & I went here on "date" night on saturday. We didn't have reservations and it looked like it was crowded based upon the number of cars in the parking lot...but when we got in, we only had to wait about 5 minutes before getting seated. Wife ordered wine and I got some kind of fancy, colored drink....i don't remember the name, but it was too sweet for me so I went back to my rum and coke. I ordered the chicken tiqual. I don't remember what my wife ordered, but she said it was delicious. The chicken tiqual was fantastic. I highly recommend it...the combination of flavors....who would've thought to combine some of these items together, but it is like a party going on in my mouth if you would combine some of the things on your fork and eat it together. We were too full to order dessert. I love this place, can you tell. Can't wait to go back and order chicken tiqual again.

Prepare to be WOW'd!. The food here is incredible. There is a wide variety of Latin food all created with the chef's own flair. It's not just Mexican either...there is so much more than the standard fajitas and enchiladas. The food presentation is beautiful too - each plate comes out like a work of art. The food is delicious! Service was great too. The decor was casual but stylish. The prices are excellent for the quality of food. I will absolutely be back.

Best Seafood Enchiladas and Margarita's in Houston! No, in the WORLD. Cafe Red Onion is not regular old Houston Texmex to my surprise. It is latin "fusion" with a mexican caribbean twist. My favorites are any of their salads and always the seafood enchildas! This is a classy place, with low prices and every entree has a creative presentation. Service is consistantly great even at their busiest times. Their margaritas have something special...they're smooth, not painful to drink - almost dangerously smooth because they definitely pack a kick!

Wow!- Everything is a Colorful Flavor Explosion. My first visit to the Red Onion was at their old 290 location, it's been nice to watch them grow through the years. I have been a long time fan of Rafael's culinary flare...the Pineapple Salsa is to die for... the Margaritas are awesome...& I usually let my waiter/waitress recommend my entree...I have never been dissappointed.

There is nothing on the menu my family has tried we have been disappointed with. The Medallion of Beef Colombia and the Chicken Brazil are always favorites. Presentation, value, atmosphere, Cafe Red Onion has it all!!! Kudos to Rafael for the breath of fresh air in a sometimes stuffy Houston restaurant market...

This intriguing enterprise, with its Mexican-Central American flavors, serves as a culinary oasis amid the standard Tex-Mex franchise operations.. In Short
Although the room feels a trifle severe, a few thoughtful touches (like faux windows) and a high energy level soften the effect. But diners may not even look up from their plates once the robust Latin fusion dishes arrive. The intriguing pineapple salsa (its sweetness leavened by cilantro and peppers) is served with plantain chips. Try the smoky cream of roasted poblano and chicken soup, piquant red snapper served with cabbage and cheese, and the pupusas. The Especiales Mixto provides a sampling of flavors.

Delicious!. After reading all of the amazing reviews me and my friends decided to give it a try...and we are SO glad that we did. Everything was fantastic...starting with the salsa and chips and ending with the amazing entrees. I had the snapper and it was fantastic. The service was great and the atmosphere is very cute. Definitely worth checking out! Great for a date, or a lunch with the girls, or an outing with the family...

Best Restaurant In Houston. No other restaurant in Houston has food this good for such reasonable prices. My only complaint is that there isn't one close enough to my house. They have three restaurants now and they are all in the same area. Not very ambitious.
