Dot Coffee Shop has been a Houston institution since 1967. Dot was the first of many restaurants from the Pappas brothers. It all started
in downtown Houston off of Main Street and the tradition continues today on the Gulf Freeway. We offer yummy comfort food 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We never lock our doors.
Dot serves up mom's favorites, made from scratch every day. Beyond the short waits and leisurely service are large helpings of affordable home-style breakfast specialties, biscuits, omelets, pancakes and much more. Comfort food and burgers top a list of lunch and dinner favorites, including chicken fried steak, pot roast and meat loaf. Coffee lovers rejoice with our strong, no-frills java, and the apple, strawberry and pecan pie slices can't be missed. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dine-in and to-go available.
…
They have great pastries in here that match so well with their coffee. They really have things figured out in here, they have the perfect place to relax.
The Best Old School Diner/Truck Stop Resturant. I wanted to go to this place because it reminded me of the truck stops from when I was a little girl. I went in & it had the same look of the old truck stops & highway diners that you would see up & down IH35!!!!! Then I got my food & it was some seriously off the chain food!!!!! I love it~love it~love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my new favorite resturant & I will have to stay away because if I don't I will be there everyday & will be bigger than a house & plus my diet will not allow it but once a month!!!!! So when I go there I will have to workout even harder afterwards!!!!!!! LoL!!!!!
bad experience. pupose. left tip on table,+ was charge on ticket for tip+ bad experience, and yes it was done on purpose. she was going to keep the change $16.10 out of $100-for a bill of 83.90 with $10.94 gratuity already included. $10 tip already left at table. waited a table for more than 10 min for her. had to go to register and ask for copy of receit, and ask her personally for my change, wich she only returned $12 out of $16.10. $10 tip at table+ $10.94 included in ticket + $4.10 which she did not return. for a dine in of $72.96+$10.94 gratuity included. something like that had never happened to me before.
It's a coffee shop, folks. Dot's is a Houston's original, a throwback to the great coffee shops in Times Square that offer huge sandwiches and mouth-watering cheesecake. The goal of this restaurant is to provide you with tasty, filling food that is reasonably priced. It never fails. The service can be touch and go but the people watching while you wait makes the trip worthwhile. To-go orders are handled fairly quickly and you can torment yourself looking at the huge desserts in the display case while you wait. This restaurant dares not list calorie counts - the numbers would be too shocking. Most entrees are good, and a few are great. Take a risk - order something you're craving - you are bound to be pleasantly surprised. And for the youngsters out there - Dot's is a coffee shop in the traditional sense.Good coffee served and a lunch menu/desserts offered. This place was making money long before we decided we just had to have specialty coffees from a "coffee shop."
Best Ever!. i visit this place at least once a week if not every other. Great food. portions are larger. Waitresses are super friendly. love everything about the place....
DOT Rest.. This was a great place. First time I have been there and the food, service was just great.
Definitely worth the trip. After researching several all night restaurants in Houston, I finally decided that Dot's Coffee Shop looked the most promising. I drove there tonight at 1:00 and arrived at about 1:30. The restaurant is on the feeder road of I-45, very close to the Gulfgate Shopping Center. I am from the Baytown area and, as such, it was a fairly lengthy drive, but I do not at all regret my visit. The food was terrific, and the service was even more impressive. I will definitely return.
Best hashbrowns anywhere.. This place is great, the portions are great, and the food is delicious, and the price is very reasonable. It just isn't a good vacation if i don't visit this place atleast twice a week while im there. I've visited several states and countries and still haven't found better hashbrowns, and the omlets are among the best i've had.
Houston's homegrown breakfast, pie and coffee antidote to Denny's..
In Short
Beyond the short waits and leisurely service lies large helpings of affordable home-style breakfast specialties. Biscuits, cornbread, omelettes, pancakes and much more are executed to legendary diner standards. Comfort food and burgers top a list of lunch and dinner favorites, including pot roast and meat loaf. Coffee lovers receive their very own pot of strong, no-frills java, and the cafe's apple, strawberry and pecan pie slices can't be missed.
Not that good.
You'd think this place would be off the hook, but you'd be wrong.
I've been serveral times mainly in the evening hours. Service tended to be slow on all counts and the food seemed just like or a little worse than i hop in some cases.
