“Used to be a good place to go”
“Now the staff is rude to both the clients and the children, do not have a play area for the children, they charge too much for their used items, they have a higher commission split and charge a fee for every item you want back that does not sell.”
“They are rude to the children, are not a child friendly store, are over priced, talk badl.”
Wow...consign there if you like to be ripped off. First of all, I agree with the review stating that they turn down some high quality items I tried to sell...nothing wrong with the items but the bully behind the consignment desk wanted to assert herself, I suppose. Then, they write checks for pickup but do not tell you that the check is available. So, if when you called, the amount was less then thirty bucks, they tell you they will not issue a check until it is over thirty bucks. When that occurs, they write a check and hold it for you to supernaturally become aware that they are holding your check but for some reason, you don't possess supernatural tendencies and don't know about the check, you have 90 days to pick it up or else you will only be able to use the amount for store credit. The amount on the check is an accumulation of the money earned from all your items so it is impossible to keep track of when the "90" days are over. Furthermore, when I picked up my items, I get a downgraded, older version of what I tried to sell. This lady is a con-artist, I tell you. Lastly, when you are forced to spend you money inside the store, the clothes they actually do have aren't anything decent. They are actually stained, some have worn material that does not offer many more wears and piling. Plus, their selection for sizes 6 to 10 are pretty pathetic. It would be a place decent enough to shop for old play clothes but I would not put them on my daughter for school. There are better places out there. I do not recommend this place nor will I consign with them ever again. I rather sell my stuff on eBay, Craigslist, or BBBS sale sites on Facebook where I am actually dealing with honesty people, not unethical crooks.
Love This Store!. Know this store has tough rules on consigning as I do consign my childrens items there. These rules are great as I know they do not take "garage sale" items. Yes, their lights do bring out the spots and I appreciate that. Our lights in our homes are not the same as what is in any business. The lady at the back counter does come across with a tough attitude sometimes but more than none she does an a great job only allowing quality items on the floor to sell. I am a believer that if anyone is SO attached to their clothes they should not be consigning them. Appreciate the fact they do take your items. Maybe those who complain so much on this process should just sell outright to those resale stores who do or hold a garage sale. Yes, agree, people in business should be nice but realize customers are not always pleasant either. Either way I will continue to go there as great place, great prices, love their attiutude to always help others and they are always open to read these reviews. If you notice on their web site, they encourage it. Wish these ladies many more great years in business. If you have never been there DO NOT go by these reviews, go for yourself. You will love this store!
If everyone says you're rude maybe it's because you ARE..
This store is clean with a nice selection. The prices are not cheap, but are generally reasonable. Their sales make it worth shopping there. I have purchased a few items at Crayons as well as consigned some things.
However, one of the staff members is particularly rude and condescending... and she should take these reviews to heart rather than try to justify her misbehavior by posting yet another rebuttal. If customers have a question, answer them kindly rather than like they are stupid for asking. And make an effort to make people feel comfortable while you are criticizing the items they have brought in to consign. I have also been a victim of "phantom spots" when trying to consign items here, not to mention being told that my items were too wrinkled or worn when I have seen far more wrinkled & worn items for sale in the store than my own. I actually wondered if this lady had a problem with me personally until I read so many other reviews that described the very same thing that I experienced.
Overall, the store and its contents are nice... and the other owner is friendly. Unfortunately, one rude person makes me think twice about continuing my business here.
Love this place!.
I have been shopping at Crayons for a few years now and also consigning my kids clothes as well. I LOVE the set up of this store-very organized, clean and friendly!
I am reading these negative reviews and feel bad that others who have not experienced Crayons first hand to see what a great place it is that they are going to miss out on a great place to shop/consign. I personally have not had a negative interaction with Gayle or Emily so I can't relate (and again, I've have shopped/consigned here for a few years). I am ok with the $1 pull fee for items I want back because if you've been in their store you (should) understand they have a huge inventory and it will take time for them to find items you'd like back. **I saw one person said that Crayons charges you for clothes that do not sell...that is NOT what they do. The $1 fee is ONLY if you choose to take the clothes that did not sell back.** Incorrect comments like this are the reason people need to go and see for themselves what they think of Crayons (or any place being reviewed by others).
I recommened Crayons to all my friends *especially my 1st time mom friends* because they are very clean and very particular with what they accept in their store (no stains or holdes in items) that you can find everything you need in one shop and know that it's a quality item!
Why is the owner allowed to review their own place?. I wonder why the owner is allowed to provide their own review? I have never been to this store so I can't provide a review, but I can also say that I will never go to this store because the owner reviewed their own store - which is ethically wrong.
it's the little things that matter.....
I browsed at Crayons a lot when I was pregnant, and was very happy with what I saw. I made a mental note to consign with this store after my daughter grew out of her clothes. I made it a point to keep her clothes looking as new as possible before taking them to this store. I bought a few items and my daughter grew out of them before I even had a chance to put them on her. I was very disappointed when I took these items and attempted to consign them again (I wasn't returning them, I didn't even mention to the clerk that they came from her store), all of these phantom spots appeared on the clothes that the clerk could see, but I could not; she refused to take clothes that were sold to me from her store that hadn't even been taken off the hanger!!! Not only did "The Case of the Phantom Spots" disappoint me, but also the fact that they're going to chanrge me $1 for every item that didn't sell that they're going to have to give back to me. So, not only are they getting 60% of the items I do sell, they're going to charge me another $1 for the items that don't! I could break even!!! They say that it's to help pay for the expansion of their store. Frankly, I don't think that you should try to expand your store BEFORE you've made the money to do it! I also didn't like how the same 'phantom spot' clerk took my items and went through them without me there. She took my items and told me that she'd call out my name when she was ready to go through them. She called out my name AFTER she had gone through them. I really didn't like that.
After my items were at the store for awhile, I called to check and see what I had sold. I decided in this phone call that after my items are sold, I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH CRAYONS AGAIN! I didn't have my paperwork with me, and the person who answered the phone was very rude to me, and chastised me for not knowing my customer number. I'm sorry that I don't carry every peice of paper ever given to me in my back pocket, and that I have more important things to remember than my customer id number at your store. After I gave the woman my name, it became perfectly clear that she had the ability to find my account with my name, but she felt the need to lecture me about not having all the necessary information.
This store is all about making $$$, and they forget that their store depends on their customers! We provide your stock! We are the reason that your're making a profit! If you honestly want to make your business better, and have it live up to the potential that it really has, you need to A) get rid of the BS money mooching policies and B) take a lesson and learn some customer service skills!!!
Great prices and selection, smart shopping.
Most important, the store has a huge selection, there's something for every taste and the prices are reasonable. I take my little girl's clothes there for consignment and am always pleased the next time I walk in and have a credit in my account.
There is something new each time I go there and I can get a quality outfit complete with shoes and hair bows for less than I would a pair of new toddler jeans.
Also important, the owners are committed to community service, often hosting events that benefit breast cancer research.
I always go there first before I buy my daughter clothes and toys. On the toy front, I have bought used puzzles, a play kitchen, toddler table and chairs, rocking chair, talking Elmo and goodness knows what else. My daughter loves them all...
Used to be a good place to go. This store did not use to have the problems it has with the new ownership. It used to be child friendly, reasonably priced, great customer service and had a good commission split. Now the staff is rude to both the clients and the children, do not have a play area for the children, they charge too much for their used items, they have a higher commission split and charge a fee for every item you want back that does not sell. I take my unsold items to other resale shops like Saturday's Child or post on Craigslist, as I am sure a lot of people do. Now I have to pay to get them back? No other resale shop does this. If I wanted to donate to charity, I would just take them there and bypass the unpleasant staff here. I know a number of people who have stopped shopping here since the new owners took over and I am one of them.
Consigning At Crayons. As the owner to Crayons I made a decision last year to charge a $1 pull fee to all items clients want back at the end of their 120 consignment. I have 99% very satisfied clients as many do not want their items back. I do offer a year end tax report of all items left at my store so my clients may use this on their taxes. This $1 fee covers 120 days of marketing, pricing, santizing & tagging if required by state law, insurance on all items and my time. If anyone feels that our time and overhead for this 120 days is not worth the $1 fee to handle their items, then yes, I do recommend they rethink leaving their items with us. We work hard making money for our clients and we have many who come back month after month. Things do change with new owners as that is part of change. Change can be good for those who are open to it and with the economy we are in, there must be change. Come see for yourself why we are #1 and the largest childrens resale. Not Happy Consignor. When I called to find out about consigning with them, they told me that I needed to make an appointment in order to bring in my items. When I got there, I was given the contract and it was then that I was told that if I wanted my items back at the end of the contract, I would have to pay them $1.00 per item that was pulled. I honestly did not like that, but I was hoping that I would not have anything left. Besides, I figured, they were the ones that picked the best ones. In all of the 20+ years of being a consignor, this is the first time that I was really disappointed with a Resale Shop. I had consigned before with the previous owner, Tessa, and this was not on the contract. I work for a large company and there are several people that ask me to give them a good Resale Shop for kids. Unfortunately, I will not be telling them about this one and I will not consign with them ever again.
