Not Happy Consignor

by TJams at Citysearch

When I called to find out about consigning with them, they told me that I needed to make an appointment in order to bring in my items. When I got there, I was given the contract and it was then that I was told that if I wanted my items back at the end of the contract, I would have to pay them $1.00 per item that was pulled. I honestly did not like that, but I was hoping that I would not have anything left. Besides, I figured, they were the ones that picked the best ones. In all of the 20+ years of being a consignor, this is the first time that I was really disappointed with a Resale Shop. I had consigned before with the previous owner, Tessa, and this was not on the contract. I work for a large company and there are several people that ask me to give them a good Resale Shop for kids. Unfortunately, I will not be telling them about this one and I will not consign with them ever again.

Comment by Crayons Owner to previous review

by Gail Roben at Citysearch

As the owner to Crayons Childrens Resale I would like to comment on the previous review. There are always 2 sides to every issue including this one. As a owner to 2 businesses we thrieve on reviews as they better the service we can give to our clients. I was present in the store the day this lady is commenting on. Do note as a business we do have guidelines for our clients who consign with us to follow. We do offer a 60/40 split and we do have a $1 return item fee. Most of my clients never come back for their items as they know we give them a donation ticket at the end of the year for the items left in our store. This fee ONLY applies to those who come in to pick up their items. We also do highlight certain lines on our contract for our clients to see so there is no room for misunderstanding how our systems work. Emily is in charge of inpsections and is really good to make sure we do not take any items with stains, wear, out dated or missing tags. We also do random sales here to push out our clients items. It helps everyone make their money. As she stated she was a shopper here before she decided to consign so she would know how clean and picky we are with the items we sell. We are no garage sale. We do handle 8 apts everyday so we like our consignors to be on time. We just ask that we have the counter clear from the previous consignor before the counter is used again. I would like you to come visit us and see for yourself. I would like to THANK all my wonderful shoppers and consignors who make us as popular as we are. Gail Roben - Owner

Disappointed potential consignor.

by lsumom at Citysearch

I have visited Crayons before as a buyer and decided to try to consign my children's items to potentially receive some proceeds to use for future clothing purchases. I made an appointment with one of the co-owners, Gail and arrived five minutes early for my sceduled appointment. Emily, the other co-owner, was not pleasant and quite gruff when I asked what I thought were the usual questions a first-time consignor might ask. Her responses were flippant and condescending as she critiqued my children's clothing. She then presented me a contract which she hurriedly highlighted, underlined and shoved in front of me to sign, I asked to review it first. There were many other charges on the contract in addition to the 60/40 split. One in particular was a $1/item pull charge. If your item doesn't sell, then they would charge you $1/item to remove it from their rack! When I asked shouldn't that be included in the 60%, she glared at me and said she doesn't work for free.At that point I decided to not go any further. When I told her that I wanted to take my clothes she tossed them at me with my discarded hangers and told me to "have fun".The consignors are the lifeblood to a consignment shop's inventory. One can get just about as much in a tax write-off when donating with no hassles and verbal abuse; I can purchase children's clothes at a discount store ,or at a department store on sale, for a bit more than a consignment store price and the threads are NEW and not worn. Bad word of mouth can be the end to a business. I will never step foot in their shop again. I was also fussed at for arriving to my appointment five minutes early--go figure!!
