THank goodness for this palce.
I've been going to Steak and Ale since I was a little kid. I consider my self somewhat of an expert on the brand. I've been to multiple locations and have seen the differences and similarities in each.
At this point in my life I travel a lot. I have to take clients out and often have meetings over dinner. Because of this I often choose Steak and Ale. It is elegant enough to impress many of my clients, but not so expensive to my bosses cry.
There are many items that I would recommend to any patron who has yet to fully enjoy the Steak and Ale experience. First let me say that their salad bar is second to none. Anyone who gets any of their other salads is missing out.
If you are looking for a nice dinner, but on the cheaper side I would recommend their Hawaiian Chicken, The Spicy Chicken Pasta or on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesday getting their $10.99 Prime Rib Special.
If you?re willing to spend just a little more then I would recommend the Kensington Club, Cedar Plank Salmon or Their Braised Pork Osso Bucco. The Osso Buco was new the last time I went, and it was truly fantastic. I had it in Arlington Texas and it was about $15.
Now when you really want to spend a little more cash there are only 3 items to get. For seafood lovers get their Lobster Tails. My wife raves over them every time she has them. For me it is either the 9-pepper Filet or the Ribeye. The 9-pepper is smaller, but it melts in your mouth tender with a sauce, while slightly hot, that is to die for. The Ribeye is big one of the most flavorful steaks I've ever had.
Now I know many people like fried food, and although I have seen a few Steak and Ale's with fried food, most do not. I also recommend pairing there food with wine or beer. Their wine list is decent compared to most casual dinning establishments and their beer choice, although usually small usually has many quality ales.
Dependably good. Steak & Ale has provided us some of the most pleasant, most dependably good restaurant meals we've had in Houston. It's been around a long time, and there's good reason for that. Is it the very best food in Houston? Honest answer, no. But the food is consistently good, reasonably priced, and almost always pleasantly served. The salad bar is good. It's open on Sunday evenings. It's typically not hard to get a table. And you can still have a real conversation -- in your normal voice -- with your table companions in their dining rooms, unlike at the noisier places that seem to have become popular! It's not flashy or glitzy, just dependably good and comfortable, and we find ourselves going back often for exactly that reason.
just okay. Steak & Ale has gone down hill. The food used to be good, but I don't go there anymore. Since I used to go there all the time, I know things have changed. They now use very low quality meat, and if the salad dressing gets any more watered down, they might as well just stop using dressing all together. Don't bother wasting your money on such low quality meat and watery salads; its just not worth it. This restaurant is way overpriced for the skimping that they have done.
Good Value. Nice and very friendly service. The food was worth the the price.
