Not a place I would go back to. Thery have not updated this place in a long time. Friends tell of roaches and mice in this place.
DEAD MOUSE DROPPED FROM ABOVE.
This is so gross, I feel compelled to tell write this for everyone's safety. Here is what happened:
My wife and I just ate at this place today and just as we were getting ready to pay for our lunch, my wife heard a loud thud and to her horror, an almost dead mouse just dropped from the tile overhang right into our booth, next to her purse. Needless to say she was terrified !! We left immediately after telling the waiter that a dead mouse just dropped into our booth.
THIS IS JUST TOTALLY GROSS OUT and present a HEALTH RISK TO ALL WHO PLANNED TO EAT HERE !! For the sakes of those who eat here in the future, I will have to report them to the City's health department. My wife is totally traumatized by this and just writing about this give me the creeps .. STAY AWAY until they cleaned up their act !!!
Good texmex comfort food....
I am a life-long tex-mex lover. So is my husband. We find the best in San Antonio, on just about every block. But in Houston, La Hacienda is one of the old tried and true. I have been going there since they opened in the early 70's. I love the margaritas and the cheese enchiladas. The Queso is perfect. They are generous with their portions and aim to please. It is festive and friendly, inexpensive and has fast service. We have had many a family meal there and have lots of great memories. I do wish they would get some decent music in there. They used to have a live mariachi band many years ago. At least some canned Mexican music would be good, rather than the setup they have now (pretty funky.)
If you love tex-mex, I think you will appreciate this restaurant.
Simply Average. I too agree that this restaurant is only average. We went last night for a friend's b-day. The waiters were great, but the food was nothing to brag about. The chips and salsa were decent. We got a bunch of fajita platters and shared. The fajita meat was great, but the chicken was terrible...no seasoning what so ever. The tortillas were average...I've had much better. I have to admit my kids food looked better and they had a hamburger and chicken nuggets. The atmosphere was ok...they had a live singer and he did the chicken dance which the kids loved. All in all it was ok, but nothing to brag about.
i don't get it.
this place gets rave reviews but its only okay. the service was great and staff friendly, but the food wasn't very fresh. the ingredients were lacking and the sauces tasted out-of-a-can. the salsa wasn't tasty and also wasn't fresh-tasting.
the variety was good and the tortillas were okay. not a place to avoid, but its also not a place to search for.
Editorial Review. Sating Tex-Mex cravings of west Houstonites since 1973, this nondescript Mexican strip mall eatery is a haven for enchiladas, tacos and fajitas.
Good value. The food is a good value, it was not exceptionally delicious but was okay for the price we paid, the atmosphere, fresh food along with the speedy service. We dined on Sunday night arriving early around 5:45 pm and the place was already 1/4 full. It was clean and we had friendly welcomes. The waiter asked us if wanted chips and queso ( I thought misleading that it would be free but knew better) after placing or drinks, all this before we had a chance to review the menu. We had single fajita and beef burrito; both were hot and fresh. Fajita okay, not the tastiest I've had; beef burrito consists of ground beef and beef pieces. The toritlla was thin, fresh, and delicious; this is not always the case in Mexican restaurants. There was entertainment too. The service was very good and we got our food between 5-10 minutes after placing the order. By the time we left, place was 90% full before 6:30pm. Very family oriented place as there were large families, birthday parties. I'm not sure I would come back, I don't hate it nor love it but I find this place a good value for the price.
Best Mexican dive EVER. My family has been eating at La Ha for since the early 70s. An awesome Tex Mex restaurant. Cheap eat and a place where the staff remembers you. Try the taco al carbon, comes with fajita taco rice and beans for under $7. Margaritas are spectacular! I'm a little annoyed that some of the reviews are bad. Every guest I have taken is hooked.
Most disgusting Tex Mex place ever. I have been to this place twice. The first time was a complete joke. Margheritas made with Everclear, beans that tasted like lard, enchilladas with the worst sauce ever. I went again reluctantly with friends. Same thing. I don't know which was worse, the service or the food. I rather eat at Taco Bell than this place.
Best Tex-mex on the Planet.. I have lived in Houston all my life. Eat Mex 5 days a week and know every mex restaurant worth a good Hot Fresh tortilla in the City. I have patronized this restaurant for over 35 years and they make the best , solid Tex -Mex day to day around. The Enchilada chili gravy is staggering. Ground beef taco's awesome. CCQueso MMMM. Fajitas preety good. Very generous portions, Super cold beer and reasonable prices. Best lunch anywhere. I think I will go there now and maybe for dinner also. I have shipped their food to people I grew up with that have moved on many occassions. This place never gets the recognition it deserves.
