What People Are Saying About Arpi's Phoenicia Deli

In Short – Houstonians flock to this charming Mediterranean bakery and deli, highly regarded for its breads and pastries, authentic hummus, tabouli, dolmas (rice and pine nut-stuffed grape leaves), gyros, shawarmas and falafel--to name but a few of the delights prepared daily at this local institution. In addition to prosciutto and mortadella sandwiches and homemade Persian candies, the restaurant also sells hard-to-find specialty Middle Eastern items such as to-die-for marinated olives, olive oils, spices, vinegar, rice, beans, cheese, tea and coffee.

  1. personally love the baba ganoush and the garlic butter sauce that goes on the shawarma.
  2. Mediterranean food is always tasty, but does that overshadow finding pubic hairs in your food?
  3. Despite the "soup n@zi" like service the food is amazing.
  4. It is crispy perfectly roasted chicken breast with roasted potatoes and some sort of garlic mayo like sauce all wrapped in a huge warm pita.
  5. Love the garlic sauce and the tahine, great wraps and a lot of weird mid-east stuff to try.
  6. My boyfriend who doesn't like mediterranean food absolutely loves this place!
  7. And the chicken shawormas are still one of my favorite foods on the planet.
  8. was introduced to this place by a good friend of mine and I was hooked I have now sense taken all my friends and we all agree that chicken shawarma is the best !
  9. Been to this place a few times, food is really good.
  10. The beef shwarmas are full of succu.
  11. wrote one of the earlier reviews commenting on the fabulous food, but also noting the (at the time) less-than-friendly service.

  1. had to come back and correct that review, as the place has been remodeled and expanded, and the staff has been unfailingly polite in the recent years.

  1. Not open on sundays, service from the lady at the cashier (seems to be the owner) is really disappointing she looks like she is always upset, not friendly at all.
  2. love this place, the service is okay, I don't see why people say that their employees are grumpy.
  3. Despite the "soup n@zi" like service the food is amazing.
  4. The staff is polite but not overly friendly so I am confused when other reviewers state they are rude.

Terrible Service - If you're not Meditteranean!

by Clem LeB

The servers gave beef and lamb shawarmas to the two Greek gentlemen in line behind us, and when questioned the cashier said ours would be brought to the table. Funny, we ordered the same thing they did.

After asking a server twenty minutes later for our food a second time, when those all around had had theirs for ten minutes or more, she rudely came to take our order again.

The cashier was no nicer ten minutes later when I asked for a refund, and he had the audacity to try to tell ours took longer to fix. He even argued with me about the order time printed on my receipt! I've been eating Greek food since before he was born, and I watched them cut the meat off the spits!

Hey Phoenicia...find another stupid American, because I won't be back!

Best greek salad in Houston

by favouritethings

Oh how excited am I that Phoenicia is coming to downtown Houston?!?!

I've been frequenting Phoenicia since high school. My first apt was just down the street. That's where I got hooked. I now drive 17m each way to get my fix about every 6 weeks.

Phoenicia doesn't have gyros. They do have the best deli, the best falafels, and THE BEST GREEK SALAD in Houston. They also have somehow maintained the small town deli feel despite their celebrity.

TIP: mix the garlic sauce & red pepper sauce for a complimentary dip with the free pitas. [learned from a regular]

When I went thru my vegetarian stage, I was addicted to their falafel plates. I've maintained my addiction to their greek salads. Their baklava is a must. But just stroll thru their wine selection and regional deli gems and you'll know why this is a must visit if you're in Houston.

  • Pros: greek salad, greek deli, staff
  • Cons: location

PUBIC HAIR FOUND IN FOOD!

by PhonoeciaDeli

My wife bought some food at the Phoenicia Deli on Westheimer Rd, Houston TX to go and what was in the box when we opened it? A big black pubic pubic hair (and I think know what a pubic hair looks like).

I think the owners do not value the rather large Asian community in Houston as customers, and this I've seen time and time again when eating at the Phoenicia Deli. So if you're Asian, and you don't like pubic hair in your food, don't come here!

Mediterranean food is always tasty, but does that overshadow finding pubic hairs in your food? Phonoecia Deli should probably be re-evaluated by the health board at this point.

DO NOT go to the Phoenicia Deli UNLESS you don't mind weeding out the pubic hair in your food because the person at the counter just doesn't like you or your race.

  • Pros: So-so Meditarranean Food Taste
  • Cons: Finding a pubic hair in it, Owners hate Asians

BEST SHAWARMA ANYWHERE!!!

by lucky720

YOU HAVE TO TRY THE CHICKEN SHAWARMA....IT'S HUGE AND DELICOUS! THE STAFF IS NICE TOO AND THE WAIT IS NOT TOO LONG, BUT LUNCH TIME CAN GET CRAZY. ONLY CON ARE THE TABLES OUTSIDE IN THE PATIO...THEY WERE ALL REALLY STICKY, NEEDED TO BE CLEANED.

  • Pros: SHAWARMA
  • Cons: DIRTY OUTSIDE SEATING
