I went into WBD and it was very overwhelming the amount of gowns. I told the sales lady i wanted a fitted gown with some lace, she continued to show me beading and ballgowns saying it was better for my body..(regardless of waht i wanted) I couldnt find anything i wanted to try on but i tried 3 just to be nice..they were horrible and i will not be back.

  • Pros: cant think of any
  • Cons: pushy, unqualified sales people

Best Experience... EVER!

by ZNismoGal

So my mom was a little weary of making an appointment there after reading all the reviews, but after my terrible experiences that Saturday I didn't think it could get worse... and I was right, it only got better!

I was on time for my appointment, however I had been trying to sell my car all week and the guy finally showed up just as I had arrived at WBD and met me in the parking lot. WBD was very understanding and let me run out to make the transaction. My assistant was very nice, and pointed out different things about different lines, and designers as she gave me a tour of the store. She was very knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable (see my terrible review of the horror of a sales lady at David's Bridal).

As a plus size bride finding a dress that I liked, made me look good and was affordable was a big challenge. But she brought me several different styles to try on after listening to what I had in mind. And I found the perfect dress.. the only dress that had made me smile all day! She was not pushy at all, and gave me some great advice and tips and trick.. I just cannot say enough good things about her.

So I decided I loved the Dress.. but they had just gotten it in that morning and my assistant was not sure the manager would sell it off the floor.. but she did! She said it was definitely MY Dress and I should take it.. the best part... the Price! and I also got a discount for buying at my first visit.

So my advice to you is check things out despite people's experience... I was ready to give up at the end of the day Saturday.. but this 4pm appointment turned out to be a wedding saver!

Disappointed

by kmkoop82

My experience with WBD hasn't been a great one but hasn't necessarily been horrible either. I was looking for a particular designer - St. Patrick, a Pronovias line - and WBD was the only salon that carried them. I first tried on dresses in July 2008 for my May wedding. I loved all the St. Patrick and Pronovias hip-hugging gowns, but as an average size 12 woman, I could not fit in their size 6 and size 8 sample gowns. They did not have a single gown in a size larger than 8 in these designers. Not everyone is model thin! I wanted to cry. I went back a second time to try to find something else with my mom and narrowed my search down to two dresses that I didn't love but would work so I returned a third time with my bridesmaids to pick my gown. WBD charged me a $50 fee since this was my third visit...and of course did NOT tell me before I showed up that I would be expected to pay this. But of course, it would be deducted from the price of the gown. I ended up purchasing my gown that day and was promised the dress would arrive in December 2008 or January 2009.

After several phone calls in January 2009, I finally talked to this HORRIBLE woman, Susha or something, who snottily told me my dress was to be shipped mid-February and I would be notified when it arrived at the store. They had apparently waited three weeks after I ordered the dress to place the order with the designer. I started calling again in February to find out where my dress was. Finally, on March 2 I called and found out it was at the store. They didn't call me at all.

The alterations woman said they needed 6-8 weeks for alterations and wanted to schedule my appointment for March 13...5 weeks before the wedding. I tried explaining that this would only give them 5 weeks for alterations...she didn't get it. I made the appointment so I could at least try it on and find out it needed so we could take it somewhere else. Luckily, it fit perfect and only needed a small bustle for the sash that came off the back of the dress. She charged me $27 for that.

I had my final fitting last Saturday, April 18. I stood around for half an hour while the alterations woman ran around tending to other customers and their prom dresses. No offense...I'm waiting around in a $2000 gown...I think the prommers can wait. She finally got time to tend to me, told me it looked great, then told me to take it off. She was there for all of 2 minutes.

I'm picking the gown up this Friday from their pressing department whom does not speak English and have read that I will be expected to pay $12 for a garment bag which makes me very unhappy.

The plus - I have a beautiful gown and can't wait to wear it. The downside - I had to jump through the appropriate hoops at a store 45 minutes away to wear it.

I would really recommend going somewhere else.

  • Pros: Large selection
  • Cons: Sample sizes, fees
