Love the place. To be honest, I have been going to this store for years..I look up at the plastic models hanging from the ceiling that have been up there for well over 15 years and it takes me down memory lane every time...You only stay in business this long if you take care of your customers, and I totally dig their selection...They have the best prices of any hobby shop I've ever been to, and would highly recommend this place to anyone on a budget...I'm only into plastics and not into RC much at all...But as far as the plastics side...I have NEVER had a complaint...I also went in there last week to purchase another model...I purchase a lot on line, but I do believe in supporting our local businesses...There was one I wanted, but was reluctant to purchase it, because of the price, keeping in mind that the price was fair enough, just a little more than I wanted to spend; The guy stopped and got to work to see what he could do...Not only did he drop the price, but it was better than the cheapest price I could find on the internet...Now that's what I'm talkin' about...Don't care what anybody says...This place is tops...

Larry's Hobbies has a great selection!. Thought I would do a review on Larry's Hobbies. This RC Hobby shop has a great selection of RC Planes, Cars and Boats...and even has a train selection. I have been un many RC Hobby Shops all over Houston and surrounding areas.

I must say that Larr's has some of the most knowledgable help in the industry. The salesmen are hired because of their knowledge and because they can help! Keep in mind, the help at Larry's is laid back and they are not aggressive and are not high pressure salesmen.

If you need help...speak up and ask for it. Be clear as to what you need and what you are looking for. All the help is capable of accommodating your needs. If they do not have the answer for you...they will find it for you.

Pros...Great Selection of Planes, Motors, Engines and current radio equipment.

Cons...Older Store...a little DARK and Dingy looking.

f- on customer service. after buying a parkzone j-3 ultramicro cub I needed new props & propshafts, ofcourse the week after x-mas there all sold out becuase of the way this planes shaft is built. so I call them to see if they got any more parts in @ 11:15 the guy tells me yeah we have them on order but give us an hour or two to get them checked in. Four hours later I show up there looking to buy some parts but they have yet to go through the parts that came that morning which were sitting 10ft away from the salesman on the floor. One would think he would go over to the parts dig through them to find what his customer needs, since we do put a paycheck in their pockets but no he just sits there laidback in his chair hands laced behind his head sayin well maybe u should come back this afternoon. Well I drove 40 miles just to get those parts, but that didnt seem to matter to him he just made funny gestures about how I would drive that far just to get plane parts.

I will never shop @ larry's again nor will I refer anyone I know to that place. I dont see how they've made it this long in the hobby busniess.

Good service.. After reading the reviews that say things like "YOU WILL HAVE A HORRIBLE TIME, THEY SUCK, LOSERS, RACISTS!!!" that sickened me, I felt I needed to check the address again. The store I went to had a friendly greeting for me, took an interest in my interest (helis), found my $8 part and spent 3 minutes trying to get me excited about their interest. Nothing shocking here, no namecalling, no surprises. Sorry for the boring post.

PS, I'm black (cause some folks think it matters).

Larry's Hobbies customer service is very bad!. So I ordered an item from what may have been the only Hobby shop willing to take the time to order for me. I go to pick up the item and the older gentleman asked if there was anything I needed, I stated I was looking for Jim, he told me there was 3 of them. I told them it had to do with cars, he directed me to the dept where one man was helping another customer and 2 other sales people was shooting the s*&^ with another regular. I browsed the aisles for 10 mins while another customer came in and immediately was asked if he had any questions to feel free to ask. an attractive woman with her son came in and was surrounded by 2 sales people right away. The first sales guy then went outside to help the first customer test his car and smoke. I then proceeded to another part of the store and never once asked if I could be helped besides the guy nursing the register. Did I mention I am not white! Welcome to Texas!

I Loved Larry's. After searching the internet for months, I finally found out about Larry's. I drove over a hundred miles to check them out. Their inventory is huge. The older gentleman there was extremely helpful and convinced me that rc planes was the hobby for me and my 2 sons. He always let me look around first then he would come and answer questions for me when it looked like I was lost. I really appreciated that. I'm glad that this store is not a fast paced walmart or circuit city. I can only assume that it harkens back to the time when folks would leisurely pace around a store without being hounded every second. I get the feeling that this is the way hobby shops are supposed to be. I couldn't believe I had so much fun looking around and talking about planes. I was very impressed.

AMEX ho*m*o*sexuals, really ? I'm in shock. First of all - I would like to make a disclaimer before writing this review, I am only commenting on my experience with one employee on Nov 13, 2008. After browsing for a few mins I asked an older gentleman at the front checkout if they took AMEX, i assumed no bc I did not see any signs and many small business don't take this credit card because of their high fees... After this person confirmed they did not take AMEX , I jokingly said it was bc they rake the small business guys over the coals and then he gave me a serious face and said it was because they are a family owned business and AMEX supports h* o * m * o's and they are a h * o * m *o run company....I was shocked....even as a heterosexual i was appalled...I will not EVER buy from this company.

Service is improving. I have never been a fan of this hobby shop, but since north Houston doesn't offer much in the way of real hobby shops I find myself shopping there now and then. Like some others I find the workers there a little slow to help customers or I see things like two or three employees helping one person while I wait. This time I was returning an item I purchased the day before, I fully expected to have a hard time getting my money back, and the first guy that I came to was only going to give me store credit, that would have been the last straw for me. All was not lost, a young man named Cory came to the rescue with the first sign of real customer service I had seen in this establishment. In the days in the internet the only thing that a retail store can do to stay alive is offer unmatched service. I believe Cory understands this and his older counterparts could stand to learn from him.

Good shop but with alot of competition form. The shop's ship and aircraft remote control is the big ticket items for them. The train part of the store is making a comeback against alot of competiton from train only stores .They have a good selection and the Train side of the store is often neglected by the employees due to the fact they are all concentrated on the RC part of the store and no nothing of trains. They used to have a guy in the train part of the store that would load the shelfs with stuff but since he left the stock has remained the same with little or no change .Having been in the Hobby for 35 years it's easy to spot these item's.Being left alone to look at stuff is a blessing. How many times have you been hounded by sales people who are sent over to watch you and couldnt help you but could only check you out which is basically all that is need of them.Currently they have some guy's that are up to date on trains and can help so thats a plus for the store.
