Clean, fresh produce, my fave grocery in Chinatown. I used to drive to Bellaire for the Hong Kong Food Market, but the quality of the produce is not consistent like it used to be, so I almost always go to the Viet Hoa off of Beltway 8 and Beechnut instead. Stocked with some of the freshest produce in Chinatown, Viet Hoa beats its competitors because it is very clean, the prices competitive, and it has a great food-to-go area. Often when I want down-home Vietnamese food and don't want to cook, I'll stop by Viet Hoa for some bbq pork (thit nuong), or simple vegetable soup. On weekends they have whole bbq catfish (ca nuong) for $20-$30. All you have to do is bring it home and stick it in the oven, and voila! A gourmet Vietnamese meal. I take my parents here when they come in from out of town, and we always come home loaded with produce and food-to-go.
