Great Atmosphere and friend. Friendly , great service, plenty of screens to watch your favorite sports, Nicks famous recipes, family owned and operated... what more could you want?
A real place for REAL people.. You can get treated like a real person. The feeling is like being at your friends house. (no your best friend.) It is real and not sugar coated. Treat these people like you like to be treated, and the other B.S. reviews will make sense. It is my favorite place and you have to see for your self. 15 years open for a reason!
Saturday, February 21, 2009. I just read some of the posts that were left on the city search site. What caught my eye was the fact that the owner is replying to messages. In my opinion that is first class and a representation that he cares about making a customer base. I went to Nick's this past Saturday after reading about the place on the internet (citysearch and the company website). I just moved here from North Carolina and I was looking for a place I could go that offered a great atmosphere, nice people, drink specials and good food. When I found out that Nick's was an Italian Sports bar I was immediately intrigued. I came to watch the Tyson Cup (an international gymnastics competition) and the UNC/Maryland game. I was impressed with the amount of TV's and their quality. My friend and I ordered a beer (3.00 tap special was great) and I ordered the nachos (shared appertizer) and Philly Steak Sandwich and he ordered the Brusetta. The service was fine (it is a bar after) however, I wasn't too crazy about my food. It was edible but I was kinda of hoping for it to leave me wanting more. I know I didn't order any Italian food (it was the middle of the afternoon and I just wanted something light to go with my beer). My experience was kind of an indifferent one. I am planning to go back. This time I will order some of the Italian food (any recommendations?). I will probably be back for the UNC vs. Duke game in about two weeks. The location is not close to my Meyerland address (I know that they have no control over that. I am not complaining about it just mentioning why I will not be able to get there sooner) so I will not be able to head back sooner than I would like. I am looking forward to your reply and my next visit at Nick's.
Nicks Place Rocks!.
My wife and I stopped in Nick's Place to watch the game and had a great time.
Nick's Place has it all - several flat screen HD TVs, great food with top notch service. Im impressed and will definitely be back.
How YOU Doin!. If you want a great place to watch your favorite team and have a cocktail or two or three...., then Nick's is your place! The service, the food and the atmosphere is exactly what you want in a Sports Bar. You will never be refused when requesting a particular game. My wife went to a small school in Louisiana and they always accomidate her by showing her team on at least one of the many HD TV's. Also a great place to bring a group of you and your college alumni. They will set up tables and TV's regardless of the size of your party and treat you like you've been going there for years. I'm a life long Houstonian and Nick's Texas hospitality is top notch!!!!
Get rid of Wes and the place will be alot better!!. Nick's would be better if Wes did not work there. I been there 3 times, and every time he has been a total d*&K! The 1st time i went, i was alone, so he was being nice and walked me to my car. As soon as i got in my car the MF tried to kiss me, yuk!! The 2nd time I went with a few friends and we were doing shots, so then he decideds to tell my friend she can't have anymore shots. Well some guy orders us a round of shots, and of course we drink them, so then Wes kicks us out for drinking the shots he just made us,plus takes our money. The last time, we tipped out the waitress before she left to make sure she got her tip from us. Then closed out the tap with Wes and he made a big fit saying we were not tippers. My friend decides to order another round before we left and he slammed the drinks down in front of us and said loud, "here is to the non tippers). I know they did something to our drinks. I was very offened because I am a great tipper. I usually leave the same amount as what my tap is for the tip. SO PLEASE JUST GET RID OF WES!! HE IS A GREASY SLIME BALL AND SO RUDE!!
Average neighborhood sports bar. There is nothing about Nick's that merits special mention. The food is dreadful. Suggestion: Shorten the menu and concentrate on quality. The nachos had no sour cream, no guacamole, no meat. It was basically chips & queso. Ugh! Service was average. Decor: mediocre.
Great Pizza-Smoking.
Nick's Place serves a great pizza. It must be the pizza sauce. The pizza is served with a New-York style thick White Flour Crust. Made with olive oil? Tastes like it. I would prefer that they serve Thin Crust,, 100% Whole Wheat Pizza . That would be a perfect pizza for overweight individuals like myself.
With the new city ordinance, smoking is restricted to the outside. The patio where smoking is allowed is next to the building, so the second-hand smoke does sometimes seep into the bar when patrons open the door to come in-and-out of the bar.I guess non-smokers could choose their spot carefully.
Bigger Bar Tabs Rule the Roost!. Nick's Place is a local haunt of lots of Houston's talk radio personalities. Since it is always promoted as "down home" & a "great place", I decided to change my venue for our annual fantasy football league draft to Nick's for this season....TERRIBLE DECISION. We have done this for 7 years, but based on what I always hear on the radio, thought why not give Nick's a shot. Back in early June I scheduled my draft for Nick's on Friday, 08/22/2008. I followed up with that by actually stopping in & speaking to Nick himself a week before and verified that we were set up for 8 p.m. with enough space for 20 people. I arrived @7:15 the night of the draft and had been told that we would be sharing one side of the bar with another league, but that it wouldn't be an issue. HA. Their league had premium space with square tables all put together in conference roomlike seating for the 15-20 guys that were there. We were shoved up in a corner under a TV, right in front of the mens restroom, with 1 square table, 2 round ones & 12 seats... not what I had been told at all. The staff came over and helped move more tables over, but because of the proximity of where we were in relation to the bathroom, we had to curve back around towards the middle of the room. This meant that the back two tables had to deal with all of the noise that the other league was creating. Noise is kind of an understatement. The other group was loud and boisterous. Most of them were drunk by the 3rd round & the alcohol continued to flow. They even began throwing things like napkins & coasters. When we asked about having them quieten down we were told that they came every year & usually racked up a tab of $1200+. I know that small business owners rely on returning customers, but our group spent around $550 & were treated like our event was not nearly as important as the group of loud buffoons that were there every year. I will never go back & suggest that no one ever does.
Awesome pizza. My husband and I go to Nicks Place about 3 times a month. The service is great, the waiters are always friendly and remember you after the second time you are there. The pizza is the best in town, it has spoiled me for pizza anywhere else. My husband raves about the fish tacos. I think they have the coldest bottled beer in the city. Its a neighborhood bar atmosphere, easy going and casual, just the type of place we love. We have introduced it to many of our friends. Have to run now, on our way to Nicks for the evening!
