“The green tea ice cream is really good.”
“The green tea ice cream is really good.”
“However, in the near future I would like to give their non-sushi entrees another try since they do have quite an extensive menu--maybe I will go with the more authentic dishes and report back”
“Their restaurant is beautiful, with a very traditional menu and beautiful interior.”
“not very frequent but when we want sushi, this is the best place to go.”
“would never come back or recommend this place, very disappointed.”
“The service at Kaneyama was appalling.”
“overall wasn't so bad, but nothing outstanding, and price is little high for a place like that.”
“even on their slow nights, the food takes forever to come out sometimes.”
Good service, but poor taste on food. i found litte difference with other user. i been that place two days ago with friends. That is 3rd time i went in there. Honestly, i don't really recommed that place, but one of my friend loves the sushi there. overall wasn't so bad, but nothing outstanding, and price is little high for a place like that. The servie we got was good, staff is knowlegable, and attentive, but i won't trust them about the specials they recommend everytime. Those are expensive, but tasteless, don't waste your money on those. i would just go for my usual stuffs.
Awful. We had 4 adults and 1 child. The food was awful. It hardly had any flavor at all. After we got our food the waitress never came to check on us. The best part was when I got home I was sick as a dog. I was throwing up among other things. I took some pepto and went to bed with the worst cramps ever all night long. Woke up the next morning and I am still sick. I would not recommend this place. FYI my 11yr old son loved the Ramen noodle.
Use the Sushi Bar avoid subpar waite stuff.
II have mixed emotions about this one. Great food most of the time (I eat there often) Service on the other hand is 2nd rate and I am being charitable. Waitresses congregate by the register and when you try to get some service they will respond when good and ready. That?s actually better then the middle aged female hostess, she will just ignore you ant that?s that. (Big time "no my job" attitude)
I tried sitting at the Sushi bar and that was a good experience. Both, food and service were exemplary.
Due to poor service I would not recomend for special events.
Horrific...never again.. Absolutely horrifically bad..YES, INCREDIBLY BAD.. lack of service, food had no taste so must not be fresh.. had sushi which was rubbery and smelly, worst tempura because it was similiar to Long John Silver's. I would not come back or recommend this place to even my worst enemy. Don't waste your time and money here.
Recommend this place!.
Like the previous reviewer, I too, would definately recommend Kaneyama. Their sushi is great - so much so that we drive way out of our way to go here often. My favorite is to sit at the sushi bar - I enjoy the environment and watching the chefs create the dishes. This is not a fancy place, but neither is it too casual. They also have a few private rooms which I don't see at a lot of Japanese places anymore as they've all gone to the grills to fill up their space.
We've tried almost all the small sushi places on Westheimer, and this one is our favorite hands down.
Been going here for the past 10 years.... Honestly, Kaneyama has the BEST SUSHI in Houston! I've tried almost every single sushi restaurant in Houston and no other place comes close to this one. I'm sick of all the high class sushi places that have recently opened up in Houston...especially the ones that charge an arm and leg for their sushi just because they can. I could care less about paying for the atmosphere. Instead, I want good food at a REASONABLE price. I have to admit that their service isn't the greatest, but they don't intentionally try to snub you or purposely try to ignore you. I've always been pretty much understanding when it comes to service bc I've been a waitress myself, so sometimes they are really busy or can really just be waiting on the chef to finish making the order. I understand that the food might take awhile, but hey, at least it's good when it comes out...and it's always fresh! Unless you want to stick to the fancy smansy sushi places like Uptown Sushi, Azuma, or Sake ...then I guess I wouldn't recommend this place. ..but I do recommend it for sushi lovers. Try their appetizer...forgot what it was called but I just went last weekend and it was some sort of appetizer where they cut thin slices of rib eye steak and you cook it on a rock that sits over a flame! The sauce that goes with it is divine. Something like that at Azuma would cost you at least $15 or more bucks, but at this place I think it's only under $10!
Unbeliveably BAD.... Even though we were seated promptly and got our waters refilled. Service was horrible, took FOREVER to get our food. Rice on sushi was over-packed and hard, didn't have settle taste of sweetness like fresh authentic Japanese rice. I would never come back or recommend this place, very disappointed. Try Aka or Cafe Japon.
Want good service and good food? DON'T COME HERE!. My family and I went there last night; five adults in all. Food was very average and the salmon sashimi had absolutely no taste. We were served with the food at extremely slow pace, no one ever came by to ask how we were doing and struggled to get attention each time to remind them on items we ordered they forgot bring. We fought to get attention all they way to getting our check. Two tables of four had came and left but we were still there for over 2 hours when the restaurant was not even half full the entire time. In addition, the Dragon Roll was listed on the menu for $7.50 but charged us $10.95. When as asked about the price, she said they just changed it and wouldn't honor the price on the menu! Waitress blamed the slow service on the hew guy in the back.. Yeah..., sure... Now I remember why I have not been back in 5 years, it was the HORRIBLE SERVICE! I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody based on quality or value of the food and service.
First Timers Joy. I have "tried" sushi a few times but never was bold enough to go to a restaurant and partake in the complete experience. The staff was excellent. From the time we came through the door until our departure - all of our questions had been answered thoroughly and all of our wants and needs were attended too. I love a place where you can experience something new but also learn about another culture. The sushi was OFF THE CHAIN...meaning it was way past good! There were a few things that I tried for the first time and it won't be a second - just due to my taste buds..LOL. Everything was fresh and I was overly pleased with my experience. I'll be back....
Best Fresh Sushi. Everytime I come here you are greatly very wamrly in Japanese...wish I knew how to say it..they have the best fresh sushi in houston..salmon is great...service is friendly, and the wait time is not too bad...also they serve good sake...they have a customer for life
