Worst Mexican restaurant ever, evER, EVER!!! DISGUSTING!. 1) The rice was dry and somewhat crunchy (like it had been a week old).

2) The refried beans had a crusty layer on the surface & the charro beans needed more salt than was in the shaker!

3) The steak fajitas we ordered were SITTING IN GREASE (at least a HALF-INCH DEEP!!!!). They actually dripped when you picked them up. I was TOTALLY disgusted!

4) We ordered fajitas for two but there was hardly enough beef for one person - for $24 WTF?

5) No dessert??? Nope, none! not even soft-serve ice cream!

6) No hot sauce! Not even Tabasco!!!

7)Need I go on? I will never, evER, EVER eat there again! I would rather drink a bottle of Crisco oil!

BEST of the BEST. This is without a doubt the best Mexican food in the City of Houston. During my 28 years in the city, I experienced many Mexican restaurants. There is not a single one that compares to the quality of the food prepared at this small, family owned neighborhood establishment. It's true, you don't miss what you've got til it's gone. I no longer reside in the Houston area and suffer from sub-par mexican food in Florida. The only certainty is that upon every trip to Houston, a visit to El Gallo is at the top of the itinerary. If you have not been to El Gallo, you must give it a try. You'll find yourself at your new favorite mexican restaurant. 5 STARS

Been going since I was a kid. I've been going here since I was a kid. It's always nice when George greets you at the door altho he is not in much anymore but the kids have done a great job in keeping the place the same. Altho I live in dallas now i am always there on saturday nite for dinner. Ive got to have my el gallo fix and always bring home 2 quarts of the salsa. All the food is good here, the queso is great and its a nice family atmosphere. Give it a shot sometime.

Come on in - you're family!. And that's how you feel when you walk in the door and are greeted by George, owner of this family restaurant. Established in 1971, the Spring Branch restaurant is located across the street from Spring Wood High School. The food is excellent and is our standard for measuring any other mexican food in town. My son, who is in the Navy, recently came back from a tour of duty in the Persian Gulf. When asked where he wanted to go to dinner, the answer was "You have to ask? El Gallo, of course!" Try it! You won't be disappointed!

Best in HOUSTON. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Houston. Best value for price. I hate that it is closed on Sunday. All my relatives insist on going there when in Houston.

Awesome Food!!!. I have tried both El Gallo restaurants in Houston. Both places have awesome food at a great price. I eat at the one on Jones Rd most frequently and the service is A+. HIGHLY Recommended
