“They also have a more formal restaurant nearby called Villa Capri, which is also just as delicious and is perfect on a romantic nicht out!”
“The service was exceptional, the food was hot and excellent, the Escargot was perfect and the wine (Sonoma-Cutrer) was heavenly and the price was reasonable, especially for the quality!”
“My favorite dish is their veal piccata, truly excellent.”
“great place to go for lunch or dinner.”
“Frenchies is just down the street from Nasa and has many famous people drop by.”
“Not only will the owners and staff remember your name, the food is truly OUTSTANDING, with generous portions.”
Better Italian food than anywhere in Houston.... Frenchie's is one of a kind. Not only will the owners and staff remember your name, the food is truly OUTSTANDING, with generous portions. I don't think it is overpriced at all, especially compared to those "italian" chain restaurants on every highway feeder road. The eggplant parmesean is the best I've ever had. Anywhere.
This strip-mall surprise is Clear Lake's well-established home for Italian/Neapolitan regional dishes and Gulf Coast seafood..
The Scene
Frenchie's has been a Clear Lake staple for more than 20 years. NASA memorabilia decorates the sparse, bright dining room. Servers are family members and longtime family friends, whose warm demeanor helps put diners in the mood for a home-cooked meal.
The Food
The owners, brothers Frank and Giuseppe Camera, are from the island of Capri, which gives the menu a solid helping of authenticity. Escargot is served bubbling hot, with a strong, but not overpowering, punch of garlic. Prosciutto comes atop slices of perfectly ripe cantaloupe. The Fisherman spaghetti comes with large bites of salmon, peas and fresh mushrooms, covered by a tomato-cream sauce. Cheese ravioli is delightfully gooey, with a tangy sauce that complements the subtle cheese flavor. Other dishes include steaks, veal and lamb. For dessert, try the tiramisu with homemade cream.
Nice but overpriced.
Very nice Italian dishes, great atmosphere (everybody knows everybody! Family restaurant), lots of astronauts picts on the walls. The dishes, except the pasta ones are overpriuced, especially the specials. Wine list limited. Lunch buffet food not great.
One should go to that restaurant after visiting NASA because it is a staple of Houston. Go for diner, not for lunch.
Real Italian. Having lived in Italy for three years and visited often during the last 4 years, I believe I am qualified to judge good Italian restaurants. I have been frequenting Frenchie's since it first opened and have found the food and the service to be excellent. This is one of the few places in the Houston area where I feel like I am back in Italy. The food is authentic and always well-prepared. As for service, they make you feel like you are part of there family. The key word is consistency. I have never had a bad meal. You can't go wrong by dining at Frenchie's.
The best in town!. You wouldn't know it from the outside, but this restaurant has the best food in town.
Worth the wait and the weight!. Absolutely the finest Italian food I have ever eaten! The food is a heavenly experience. I highly recommend the grilled trio of scallops, veal and shrimp in white wine lemon caper sauce, lightly breaded. I don't believe I have ever had anything so wonderful. Great wine list as well. Yeah, you may have to wait a little while on a table, but I can promise you an event that will change your life! Prepare to make an evening of it. You won't be sorry.
Great Food - Sometimes Awful Service. Seeing all the glowing ratings I'm having difficulty finding the words. They're good but not that good. It's a New York City style Italian ambiance plain, small and crowded. The food is excellent, but the service runs from average to god-awful. Lunch is order-at-the-counter-and-pickup. It's regular sit-down table service at night. They have one longtime waiter who you'll regret you ever met. We've stopped going very often at night for fear we'll get him he'll ruin your whole week. ;-)
FRANKIE!!!!. In the last 20 years there has never been another restaurant quite like Frenchie's. The people, the color, the languages, the food have always been top notch and the ones that know, know you have to be a part of this from the moment you walk in the door. I could stand up front and watch and listen while waiting for my food. Frankie will do you right!!
My family's Favorite for 20 years. This is a wonderful place to go. Frankie Camera always greets you in his Italian manner. I crave his fettichine, it is addictive. Frenchies is just down the street from Nasa and has many famous people drop by. There are pictures of them and folks like me all over the entryway. Don't let another day go by without stopping by Frenchies. Marge Houser
Resturant is overrated.
I do not care to go back to this resturant. WE have
had trouble with the service, help and food every
time we go. Last night, I said I refuse to return to
Frenchie's. The food was cold & I told the uncaring
waitress & all she said was I am so sorry. She did
nothing. We ask for different things & never got
them. Believe me, if they don't start getting better
help on the floor & in the kitchen, I see them going
under like so many other resturants. They need to
improve food. I think they have gotten to sure of
themselves. We will never return & I will pass along
the info. to my friends to not go.
