History not service or quality. I grew up in the CL area, and have been here a number of times but after the last time I will not go back. They were rude to us, even after they messed up our order and anything with bad service tastes bad. Having left CL for sometime now, I've realized its also very uncreative. I understand that its been in the hood for a while, but come on...just because it's still standing doesn't mean much to me.

Best sushi south of Beltway 8. These guys -know- how to both get the best fish and serve it. I don't mind the tables being a bit tight, and honestly, I think that more places around here should be cozy like this place is. The service can be a bit slow, but that's how you get what would be an 60 dollar sushi dinner in Houston for 30 dollars close to home. I don't mind much anyway. I like to take my time and order at least 3 times.

I eat a -lot- of sushi. Every time I go to a new city I go straight to the best sushi restaurant I can find on citysearch. I eat sushi 4 times a week for lunch while at work. There are better places in Houston, but you will pay more and well, you have to drive up into houston. With this place, I get the same quality fish in a less stuffy atmosphere close to home and for much less cash. Trust me, this place is awesome.

great rolls. The food here is great. Try the CICI roll. The place is small and they are never very fast but they are always friendly. Not a fancy atmosphere, just a local place to get some great sushi. Other reviewers complain it is slow but they hand roll everything you order and it is worth the wait which is never unreasonable.

Outstanding sushi bar!. Quite simply the food and service are great. Very fresh sushi and friendly staff. The owners are great folks and treat their customers like family. I've been eating at Tokyo bowl for 15+ years and have always been impressed. They do a good job with takeout as well - excellent order accuracy with consistently good food. They earn my business every time.

Horrible sevice and a manger with at attitude. I try Tokyo Bowl, against my better judgment, every six months or so, just to see if the service has improved.  I just returned and AGAIN, the service was absolutely horrible.  We just got back into Houston and wanted a light dinner, so my wife suggested them.  After we were seated it took an hour to get served.  I saw the waitress when she took our order, and never again.  When I complained to the manager she got an attitude with me.  I keep giving these guys another chance, but NEVER AGAIN!  As for the sushi; it is average at best.  I can only assume that the other reviews don't eat sushi anywhere else.  There are multiple sushi restaurants that offer a much better product than these guys.  Don't waste your time here.  There are too many quality establishments that really appreciate your business.

In response to scott007. Being a previous employee of Tokyo Bowl, I can assure you sushilover93 is not anyone affiliated with Tokyo Bowl. Could be a customer, who knows? The outlook on the service is this. There are usually 3 to 4 servers (at most) working the 1.. 2.. up to around 30 tables in that small room. Our job is to walk around the tables looking for drinks that need a refill, listening for customers in need of service, and getting food to the tables when we hear the bells ringing. We also bus and prep tables for other customers waiting to be seated. The problems I am hearing about seem to be coming from people with little patience.

When you go to Tokyo Bowl, be prepared to relax, and enjoy the company you are with. If you are alone, go to the sushi bar and talk to the sushi chefs, including the owner, Jay. They are all friendly, and will help you out if its not extremely busy. The regulars (who are a big majority of the customers) all seem to love all the aspects of Tokyo Bowl, otherwise why would they keep coming? It seems that impatient people are the ones with the problems. Thinking you should have 1 person waiting on you hand and foot during you're whole time there is a little absurd, seeing that there's a pretty small staff. Take it easy, enjoy the food, speak up if you have any problems, and leave when you're done so the next customers can enjoy Tokyo Bowl.

This place is my favorite Asian restaurant, and as long as they're in business, I will be a customer.

P.S. I was not the waiter who spilt the soups, I don't know who was. Sounds like Mr. Chen should've spoken up, and he could've gotten his meal for free, or at least a free Tokyo Bowl shirt to change into. Next time something bad like that happens, I'd suggest talking to the cashier, or Jay and Sherri.

Poor service. 5 star reviews from owner?. Good food. Extremely bad and slow service. I suspect 5 star reviews such as the one by sushilover93 are written by the owners of this place. Check out sushilover93's comment in response to the review titled "very poor service" by mr_a_chen. Who else other than the owner of the establishment would defend themselves like this?
