“Excellent service, nice atmosphere, but overall the food was not that good.”
WORST EXPERIENCE.
It is usually good, but today was the WORST EXPERIENCE as follows:
1. Service: We ordered sea food platter and supposedly they have two options: fried and broiled. We were not asked which one and the waiter took his liberty in deciding for us and got us fried.
2. Food: I have had worse food only once before. Following were the problems:
a. Fish tasted stale. I do not know if it was the oil or the fish, but it was not good. There may be a reason why the waiter took the liberty to decide for us.
b. Re-used oil: The food was too oils. Furthermore, the oil tasted stale… as if it was used a several times to cooking other stuff, I don’t know, but it was horrible.
c. Tasteless: Besides the taste of staleness, the food was tasteless.. not even salt. How could you cook something that is tasteless… it takes quite a bit of talent indeed.
Excellent choice. The service was first rate, the food was out standing and the dessert was amazing. We had the Key lime pie. This is an excellent restaurant for any occasion but we did notice that wheel of fortune was playing at the bar... come to your own conclusion. Wonderful place to go but at 25 I felt a little out of place.
New Orleans-inspired seafood and stellar steaks in a festive white-tablecloth setting..
In Short
This expansive, well-lit dining room draws singles and families from Clear Lake and beyond. Fill up on fried green tomatoes or dark piquant gumbo. Ambitious shrimp and fish offerings are baked, char-grilled or crab meat-stuffed. Blackened snapper is righteously spicy, sided with lemon cream sauce. The juicy, French-cut rib eye is cooked to specs, served with a loaded baker and buttery vegetables. Expect extra touches like almond butter with bread and homemade desserts.
Like some butter with your steak?. My fiancé and I have been searching for a rehearsal dinner location in the Clearlake area and tried Tommy's last night. Excellent service, nice atmosphere, but overall the food was not that good. The steak quality was disguised by all the garlic in the butter and my fiancés shrimp were very small and overcooked. But they do have a nice (cheap) wine list!
Tommy's @ Clear Lake. Service is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate (at least on my weeknight visit). Food and wine was very good.
Locals LOVE Tommy's!!. Tommy's is everything you want in a restaurant. White tablecloth, dim lights, excellent menu and wait staff. Piano bar played in the evenings. Separate rooms, great classy decor, for larger parties or private parties. Quiet, calm, relaxing. Ok for kids who mind, romantic for couples celebrating a special occasion, great for business get togethers or Christmas parties of any kind. If you want a quiet happy hour with some appetizers or a full meal, this is the restaurant those over 30 something....
Snapper vs. Halibut! (Westheimer Loc.).
We ordered the Seafood Platter and the Mag. St. Meuniere (which was a "fresh fish" snapper). Our waiter suggested, instead of having the snapper, to try the halibut b/c it was a thicker cut. Great suggestion, however, when the fish arrived it was snapper. We automatically knew the difference, having had both many times. When we confronted the waiter, he said (with hesitation), "Yes it's halibut." Hmmm. Do they really NOT know the difference here? We asked another waiter...with a bewildered look on his face, he said...."just by looking at it...I can't tell". Anyone who knows seafood can tell the difference when it's served. We then asked the manager. What really got us was that the manager either didn't know, or was trying to cover for his staff by calling the snapper...halibut!
The food is great, but please learn the menu, or at least.... the difference between Halibut and Snapper!
Tommy's. My favorite area restaurant. Great food, atmosphere, and service. Each visit is a pleasureable improvement.
A must eat!!. If you want great food with a new twist, Tommy's is the place to go in the Clear Lake area. From the wonderful appetizers to the main course, you won't find a dud. And all this great food is accompanied by a spectacular selection of wines! Like I say, a must eat!!
