“We were looking for good cheap margaritas and were told that this is the place to go.”
“Food is really good and fast service.”
“This used to be our favorite cheap, easy Mexican Restaurants.”
“slow/mediocre. If any old timers remember Monterey House and liked their food this is the place for you bland over Americanized.”

Come for the $1.25 happy hour margaritas, stay for the colorful, fun vibe. It draws both young professionals and families on a given night.
Best Mexican Food in the Area. I've been to Don Pico's numerous time and have loved everything I have ordered. From the cheap and delicous margaritas to quesadillas, Don Pico's is a top pick in the Clear Lake area.
Will never go back, gave it 3 chances.. The Clear Lake Don Pico's is terrible. The food is okay, but always luke warm when served. The $1.25 margaritas are awesome, but that that doesnt make up for the servers that never come to your table other than to take your order and serve your meal. No drink refills we brought, no refill on chips/salsa, cold food (it took 55 min to get our food), didn't bring to go boxes, we sat for 25 min after eating waiting for a bill. It took us about 2 hours to have dinner when it normally takes about 45 min. I will never go back. Not to mention the place is in serious need of a remodel, it's nasty.
Face Wash Fiasco. What was to be a fun lunch to celebrate birthdays among co-workers (including my own) turned into a very upsetting and unsettling experience. Towards the end of the meal, the servers gathered around us with desserts and the usual over-sized sombreros for us birthday-folk, and sang "happy birthday" to us, which was all in good fun, until the next thing I know, there is a hand over my mouth and face from behind, and I am blinded with whipped cream in my eyes. I couldn't see or breathe for the stuff in my mouth and nose, and was left feeling like I had been accosted. As I was trying to get the stuff off of my face, out of my eyes and hair and cleaned up off of my clothes, one of our party politely mentioned to the waiter that maybe that wasn't such a good thing to do to someone when they're not expecting it. His curt reply was that they do it all the time. We were told that it was our fault for coming, and they did not apologize for their actions. When asked to see the manager, she was told ?he?s right over there, go get him yourself?, and as she proceeded to lodge her complaint, she was met with the same defiant and defensive posture. All we wanted was an apology and an admission that they were in error, no matter how long their tradition has been going on. I can?t for a moment believe that I am the only to have concerns about being attacked from behind and having it called ?tradition?; but it was their sheer lack of compassion, empathy and customer service from the entire staff, including ownership, that was most upsetting. In reading ?rave? reviews on various sites (honestly, the food isn?t all THAT great; it was okay, but hardly ?the best?) I can only assume that they have read them as well; or written them themselves. It was clear from their attitudes that they feel they have customers to spare and didn?t feel the need to take responsibility for their reckless behavior. Maybe it was our fault for going there, but you can be sure I won?t make this mistake again.
Just So-So.
We tried Don Pico's for the first time, last weekend. We had read good reviews on here about Don Pico's, and decided to stop by for a Saturday lunch. While the shrimp enchiladas I tried were okay, they were served in a somewhat watery cream sauce. Plus the cheese insde the enchiladas tasted somewhat artificial. When trying a Mexican restaurant, one of the first tests of a passing grade in my opinion comes from the chips and salsa served at the table. While the chips were okay, the red and green salsas were very ordinary and watery. For the rest of the afternoon, I also had a nausious feeling from the food; not a good sign since I rarely, if ever get nausious.
In a nutshell, there are much better Mexican restaurants around Clearlake; I love Mamacitas on Nasa Rd., and La Brisa just down the road, on Hwy 146 in Bacliff. They both beat the pants off of Don Pico's, for just about a $1 more per plate; well worth the difference.
Great Mexican Food. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Food is really good and fast service. Very affordable with $0.99 margaritas every Friday night before 7pm and all day on Saturday!
Great Food!. Great food and service! I highly recommend! Great lunch specials and great margarita special on Saturdays!
Worst Food Ever!!!. Upon hearing many good things about Don Pico's my boyfriend and I decided to try it... NEVER AGAIN! It was the worst food I had ever tasted. The service was terrible. We were seated right away, but it took another 15 minutes before a waiter ever came to get our drink order. The restaurant was noisy and the tables were so close together I was back to back with another person with no room to walk between. I would NEVER recomment this restaurant to anyone.
Poor service & bad food. Paying customers? At this joint, who cares? Certainly not the wait staff! Order taken (grudgingly)...food delivered(sullenly)...had to beg for the check at departure. No waiter to be found (soccer game on the bar TV!) Chicken Pechuga cooked to the consistency of an old tire (I think maybe a 1963 Chevy!). There's Tex-Mex aplenty at other places! Go to 'em!
What happened to Don Picos?. What happened to Don Picos? This used to be our favorite cheap, easy Mexican Restaurants. The last two times we have visited the food was terrible and the service was questionable. Both times my food arrived not hot, not warm, but almost cold. They make such a issue out of the plate being hot, but what about the food? There is so much competition in Clear Lake for good Mexican, try someplace else!
Bad Service. Some of my friends had their worst experience ever with the service that was provided at this restaurant. If your food or drinks are ever not to your liking beware because you will have to consume them and pay for them.
