The Scene – This spare, clean store caters to serious comic book people. Boxes contain the last three months' publications; on the walls, or in back, or sometimes in a bank vault, lie older treasures, like the first-ever Spider-Man comic. There's no off-putting Weird Fanatic Vibe that might scare off first-timers. Owner Richard Evans greets regulars by name, but is kind and welcoming to the novice. – – The Goods – The former president of the National Association of Comic Book Collectors, Evans maintains that Bedrock is probably the world's foremost source for "comic…
The Best Comic Book Store In Houston
by daveknockwin
There are many comic book stores scattered throughout Houston. Stores that come to mind include Third Planet, Nan's Games & Comics, Midnight Comics, and Bedrock City Comics. Each Houston-based store has its fair share of positives and negatives. For one, even though Third Planet has a larger selection of comics and memorabilia than any other store, it is the most unorganized. And although Nan's Games & Comics has the biggest selection of board games, it has the highest prices. And although Midnight Comics opens until midnight six days a week, it has the weakest selection of items.
However, unlike the other shops, Bedrock City Comics' positives heavily outweigh its negatives. For one, the store has a pretty large selection of collectibles and memorabilia. The store sells the largest variety of t-shirts out of any comic book shop in Houston. Furthermore, unlike most comic book stores, this store is actually clean and well-organized, in addition to being well-lit. Another positive is the fact that this store has the cheapest prices out of any Houston-based comic store. And each year, the franchise holds a spring sale. During the sale, all items are 25% to 50% off. With a deal like that, everything becomes affordable. However, the store does not come without its flaws, no matter how minor. Because there are multiple Bedrock City's in Houston, the store does not feel as local and down-to-earth as a comic book store should feel. But this can be forgiven to due to the fact that this store just plain and simply rocks!
So in conclusion, if you can go to only one comic book store, make that store Bedrock City Comics!
- Pros: Large Selection Of T-Shirts, Clean, Well-Organized, Cheap Prices
- Cons: Large Corporation Feel
