Bad Practices. FAIL FALLO Pettaessa

Well I went to spotlight on Friday the 15th for a friends birthday party and had a decent time.

I had to leave early and forgot my credit card there. I have a total of 4 drinks and 2 shots.

they ended up charging my Card $59 dollars?> that comes out to $8 a drink.. Strip club prices at a Karaoke bar....

Will not be going back and will be disputing this charge as well.

Are you people serious???. I have been to this place several times and all I can say about the good reviews I have seen here is that if you like this place, you have NEVER been to a good karaoke show. The only reason I have been there more than once is that I am afoot and there are few shows to be found within walking/bus distance...that and trying to give people credit for occasionally having a bad day.

That having been said, every time, and I mean EVERY time I have been here,I have left early and angry. The bartenders are inattentive (even if you're the only customer in the place) and the KJ is sullen and rude to anyone who has the audacity to ask him to <gasp> do his job. I have read other reviews here and suspect that may be because I never paid him extra for mere civility. He is,without a doubt, the rudest, most unhelpful KJ I have ever seen...and I have been to shows all over the southeastern US for the last 12 years or so.

As for the owner,I have met him exactly once and he was very friendly, not to mention a great singer. But the moment I politely voiced a complaint about the KJ he completely lost interest in speaking to me and I haven't seen him since.Honestly,I cannot fathom how this man stays in business.

As for the two drink minimum, that is insane. People who are there to sing, visit and generally cut loose are GOING TO DRINK! All setting a minimum does is irritate new customers who get enough of rules and regulations throughout the workweek. And punishing a designated driver by ridiculously overcharging for non-alchoholic drinks should be enough to put people off all by itself.

If you are looking for a fun, friendly place to "cut up" and sing a few songs,my advice is to keep looking. This is the worst show I have ever been to and I have been to many.

Laughable prices, unremarkable drinks, mediocre dj. My friends and I really enjoy karaoke every once in a while, but Spotlight Karaoke is a last resort. The bar bill is always double what anyone would reasoanbly expect. The DJ is usually boring, and beyond that, has been pretty unreasonable by refusing to let more than one person at any table turn in a song at a time, even though there were only three occupied tables in the entire place (it was a Tuesday night), claiming that it gets confusing. Just about any other place that offers karaoke as an occasional or weekly feature is a lot more fun than this place.

We had a great time!!. Four of us went to Spotlight Karaoke last night, having never been there. We were absolutely not regulars, but the service was incredible!! It was a little daunting at first; all the tables had 'reserved' signs on them so we sat at the bar. We'd been there for about five minutes before Mr. Lee grabbed us and gave us a nice table up front. Yes, he gets up on stage and sings when he wants to... but so what!! It's his place, and he's very entertaining when he's up there. A lot of people get up and mumble, so you can't even hear them. He's really good, and does a great Frank Sinatra, as another reviewer mentioned. THERE WAS NO COVER. As for the two drink minimum, I don't know if they actually enforce that, but our table had no problem. We had about 5 - 6 rounds. I think the drink rule is a good idea; we saw a table of ten with about three drinks on the table.

I almost didn't go due to the couple bad reviews, but I'm glad I didn't listen to them. Great fun, good sushi! I can't wait to go back.

FRESH SUSHI, GREAT DRINKS, GREAT PRICES, FRIENDLY STAFF, NO COVER CHARGE, AND NICE FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE. At first I was kinda wiery going hearing some of the bad reviews such as rude staff and expensive drinks, but after checking it out myself, It was great! The staff was friendly, even the DJ who had all the negative reviews on here. Although when I first aprroached the DJ booth he was being rude to someone else, I then sat patiently waiting and to realize the other patron was being very rude. The drink prices weren't as bad as people hyped them to be on here. Very reasonable for a WESTHIEMER located bar. All I have to say is the people that complain about the drink prices they must not get out very often. As I sat waiting for my name to be called after an hr or so on a saturday packed house. The waitress kindly explained to me that they have a rotation of 20 something tabless and each table gets one turn times 4-5 mins a song. thats about an hr or 2 depending on how large a party is and blah blah blah. Surprisingly there was no cover charge. I asked the lady at the front door about the cover charge and they said they dont have one. That is is free, as long as there is a 2 drink minimum. She also explained why would she want a bunch of non-drinkers to take up all the space and karaoke time when that doesnt pay the rent, jokinly. Myself being in the serving industry totally understands. All I HAVE TO SAY IS THIS PLACE IS COOL, FUN, AND FAMILY FRIENDLY. AS FOR THE REVIEWS THEY ARE ALL RUBBISH, THERE WAS NO COVER CHARGE, THE DJ YES HE CAN BE RUDE, BUT IF UR TYPICALLY A PARTIER AND USE TO THE SCENE AROUND HOUSTON THEN YOU WOULD KNOW THE DRINKS ARE PRETTY CHEAP THEN ANYWHERE ELSE,IT SEEMS LIKE THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT SEEM TO BE COMPLAINING ON THIS IS THE CHEAP PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HAVE FUN FOR FREE! if you ask me... I thought the drinks were a lil strong! and the rotation was very long, but everyone gets there 5 mins of fame there.. its pretty cool!

...A PLACE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!!!. ...I go to SPOTLIGHT to have a good time...and...it ALWAYS delivers!!!!

...most of the time...I don't even sing...it's just the atmosphere...the friends...the hot bartenderettes...and hot waitresses...sorry Dr. J...the management...as well as the regulars...and the rest of the staff...

...the DJs try to do their best to get on as many singers as they can...but...you can't please everyone...there's always that one...

...and...if you are lucky...you just might catch Mr Lee doing a stunning rendition of "Night and Day!!!"

...I don't know...that's just me...

Terrible service. I have been there twice. First time was great the owner was nice, and the karaoke was fun. Second time the lady at the door, supposedly the owner's wife would not let me in because I said I was not gonna buy any alcohol. Her exact words were I quote " Why would I let you in if you're not even going to buy alcohol."

I will never go in there again! Very rude and not good atmosphere for karaoke or fun. I do not suggest going there, unless you feel that you would like to be mistreated and thrown out. There are plenty of other karaoke places with much nicer service.

Editorial Review. Amateur crooners and groaners both take at this Japanese-influenced karaoke bar, featuring both a main stage and private rooms.

Classic Karaoke. For singing or just watching the train wrecks, you can't beat Spotlight Karaoke. The owners have created a friendly and fun atmosphere where anyone can be a superstar. Rarely is anyone booed or heckled, rather all are applauded just for having the nerve to take the stage. A massive song catalog, great service and fair drink prices will make you a regular in no time.

Too shy for the main stage? You can book smaller private rooms. Hungry? Sushi G shows up on Friday and Saturday nights, and that G stands for Gosh Darn Good Sushi!

Word to the wise, (and the impatient) the rotation gets long quickly. Don't expect to skip to the front just because you're new, you're a regular, or you've tipped well.

Completely Horrible Terrible Experience. This place was a completely horrible terrible experience. My friends and I decided to drop off here for my bachelorette party to find an extremely rude DJ and owner who could care less. After patiently waiting for the DJ to finish chatting on his cell phone for several minutes he would hardly glance my way as I asked for a time estimate for a song request. When I questioned rather he had been speaking to me after he mumbled something under his breath he very clearly snapped that ?I needed to learn to listen.? When I replied back that he needed to learn to look at someone when speaking to them he became even more unpleasant and very unprofessional. I won?t go into details and let?s just leave it at that. When we spoke to the owner he simply shrugged his shoulders and made excuses saying that the DJ could be having a bad day. I think we could all understand a bad day, but I think most of us would also understand we would have our behinds handed to us for acting in such a manner toward clients/customers. This was a bad decision on the owners fault considering that I took myself and about ten other girls out of his sausage fest packed club. However, girls don?t get too excited about the idea of a potential boy party because although I wasn?t personally looking for myself, plenty of my girls were and they were far from impressed by the sad looking bunch there. Overall if you want to karaoke I would recommend finding another place or singing your heart out along with your car stereo. At least this would save you the outrageous cost of their drinks.
